Mr. Pink
I think people should also note there is a difference to those who SAVE cash, and those who drink/travel away all their cash. |
I save as much as I can, while still traveling. I really envy those with apartments and cars, but thats not my priority right now. If I gave up my travels, or my savings, I could have those too.
But I do buy a good blttle of wine, and even some beef on occasion! |

I hit the Remax site and pulled up a listing of 3 bedroom houses in the Greater Vancouver area. The cheapest house was $240,000, and less than 10% of the houses were under $300,000. |

| I'd think it depends. Like there are some GREAT hakwons, there are also CRAP hakwons. The same applies to everything. There are GREAT university gigs and horrible ones. |
but there is one difference once a university job goes bad it never recovers all the way.
And since the majority of schools have gone that road , and being that Korean professors and school presidents for the most part are the way they are it seems t hat eventually any good university deal is going to go out the window. |

A well-known fact as it is based on the volumes of studies done on universities which have gone bad.

As shown by all the proof you've provided (of one university). |

Well Gord, perhaps things have changed since I last went there, but then, a house in the subs, not that big, not that small, was around 200k cdn.
When the exchange rate was a "normal" 750won/dollar, that equals around 200k cdn. (for 150mil)
I personally wouldn't pull out 150+mil at the present exchange rate, as on each 50mil, the difference between 750 and 850 is almost 10k cdn. Losing 30k+ on moving 150mil isn't cool. |

tell me the schools in Seoul that haven't hogwonized? Other than a handful they all have. Almost all othe national universities (save the teachers colleges ) have hogwonized.
Many of the others themselves that haven't hogwonizd have their own very serious problems.
Well beaver enjoy the ride - if your school is really so great and is one that is bucking the system than people with MA's are going to be after your job.
When your school sees that they can get people easliy will things get better or worse?
Oh well you'll see.
these things that don't last. |

Is there anything in Korea, job wise that is good and lasts a long time?
What do you define as a long time?
I think thebeaver knows changes are ongoing in this country...as they are in most countries...so if you find yourself in a good situation job wise, milk it until change does come and find you. |

Once again, I'm not the one would should be showing the proof here. You back it up.
Many universities already have an on-campus hagwon so why would they double up on hagwons by turning their credit program into a hagwon?

My school knows how easy it is to get applicants. I discovered the other day that among the multitudes of applicants when I applied (around three hundred I heard) only a handful did not have advanced degrees and none of those, except me, were considered. Nearly all applicants had an M.A. and a few had Phds.
Except for tying the other three or four who also got jobs and have advanced degrees, I beat 'em in the hiring process so that would seem to indicate that I have a measure of immunity to the post-graduate hordes.
In any case, I'm getting an M.A. now so I'll be doubly protected.
On another note, I figure that you're bitter for a reason. I assume that you have had a few troubles at your university and that you don't want to let the world know which school that is (understandable), but to add some validity to your argument, can you let us know what happened in general terms? |

2 or 3 years is a long time in Korea. Most schools go bad and not the other way around. Korean Universities deserve their reputation. The only thing teachers can do is to shame them. |

I've been here 7.
I've seen a good hakwon go from great to almost bad.
I've seen my high school go from bad to great.
I prefer to stay away from universities myself...
However I too want to know exactly what you base your argument on. There is always extreme ends of the spectrum...so I presume you talk of averages...please post some info about that. |

Exactly what I was thinking. How much a person makes each month doesn't interest me in the least but how much their net worth grows each month I find very interesting. |
