I cant get a hold of immigration, when i punch in the options it only gives me the locations and hours of operation.
I asked this before, but i need clarification.
I quit my hagwon 6 months into contract. Got a new job at after school program. My new boss took my passport to immigration and got a different looking sticker (than my E2 visa sticker) that reads: "Permit for Change of Employment" Then underneath it is says "Period of Sojourn: (2011.07.21--one year from when i began with new employer)
DOes this new littler sticker allow me to stay here for 6 months after my original E2 expires? Or do i need to do a visa run to Japan. My new boss says no i9 dont have to go to Japan, but i dont think he really knows. |

What does your ARC say? There should be a notification on that (probably on the back) that indicates this change of employment. |

You should go to immigration with your ARC and get your new work and (possibly) new home address updated and registered on the card.
You'll also have to go back to immigration within month of the expiry date (about 5 months from now) to get an extension of sojourn. That will allow you to finish your 1 year contract with your new employer. Cost is 30 000 won. |

Sounds like your place of employment was changed (but immigration usually doesn't note that change in your passport - strange but not dissimilar to other changes of status).
Typically it is your ARC that is amended and not the passport.
I would be very careful. I see a trip to immigration in your NEAR future to sort out your ARC and confirm that your place of employment is actually changed AND what your current departure date is supposed to be.

ah wait, wait! i just checked the back of my ARC card when i got home and yes, there is a stamp in the first box in the lower left corner that says Period of Stay: 2011.07.14
So it does appear that my card is extended to this time, and it also appears im a good until my current contract expires next July, and no going to Japan it looks like. Right? Man this can be confusing. |
