There is a latest DDR mix in Busan near the Busan National University exit 1. I think Seoul has a bunch. Pump it up is more popular, but think the interest in that was waning.
I used to do tournament level play back in high school so I was happy when I came across a machine. I'm not as good as I was, but not bad considering it's been some years. |

The benefit of DDR is that it's on par with some aerobics for fitness. They actually have a free DDR style game on PC and you can buy a USB dance pad. I did it for awhile quite a few years ago but ended up blowing my ankle in an unrelated incident and haven't gotten back to it as I have to avoid any high impact stuff on it.
Program is called Stepmania if you just want to dance and don't care where you do it:

you can get all kinds of pads from expensive high-end metal ones down to mat style vinyl ones. |

I arrived here in 1999, and it was a big thing then.
Within a year, I never saw any more of it, though.
I haven't been out of Korea since then.
Is it still going on somewhere else? |

Unfortunately, I couldn't bring it here, and my apt's not really big enough for a dance pad (not like i'd know where to get one here anyway). Shame to, because that was the only part of my workout routine I enjoyed.
Drummania is a great game too for those who havent tried it. A good number of arcades have it. |

I'm sure you're far more advanced than I am, but one of those red octane foam pads might suffice for you and they can stand up out of the way when not in use, behind the couch or something.

Actually, those red octane pads are the only soft pads I'll use. I'm not a dance pad snob, but most soft pads dont stay in place for heavy mode. I nice trick I learned when i first started DDR was to glue a soft pad to a piece of plywood. This is a nice cheap solution, especially since those soft pads that come bundled with those games are perfect for it. |
