|
|
Hi Guys,
I hope I can get some help out here in regards to a position I am considering to take...
A company have offered me a job for smthg between 1.5 to 2.5 million KRW (upon conclusion) for the first 6 months and then from the 7th month its gonna reduce to 1.0 million KRW and I'll get a commission of 30% to 60% of what I make. No housing nor transport will be given.
Indeed its like an adventure since 1.0 million KRW can cover barely the housing and bit of the living expenses...through the forum and other sources I collect the cost of living in Seoul is like over 1.0 million KRW
Is it a good deal to consider? Any advise to be given?
btw the company is a consultancy company
very much appreciated any helpful tips
Regards,

Impossible to tell without more details. If you're really good at this consultancy thing, whatever that is, it could be a licence to rake.
But I'd very seriously doubt it.
Whats with 1.5 or 2.5? 30% or 60%?

sorry seems i missed out key info here
1.5 and 2.5 is the salary for the first 6 months - 1.5 million KRW to 2.5 million KRW and the 30% and 60% is the commission i'll get from my effort.
my worries is how good is the market out there because that's what is all about because from the 7th month onwards the basic salary of 1.0 million KRW can't take care of ma bills
no its not the pegsbusan thingy....
seems shallow yea but am thinking of making a trip to Korea around end of the month and check it out then a better pic can be done... |

Have you taught in Korea before. It would help to know your status.
Where are you now?
What visa will you have (E2? Gyopo?)
How can you make 1.5 and 2.5 for the first 6 months? Which one is it?
You really need to lay out all the details of the job, as well, before we can help you. |

Sounds like a bad deal, made doubly-bad by the fact that you don't seem aware of the "details" you need to work out -- is it 1.5, 2.5, or somewhere in between? Is it 30%, 60%, or somewhere in between?
Best case is you earn 2.5, and lose 1.5 in income when you have to take a commission -- if you earn 60% commission, you would need to "sell" 2.5 million worth of whatever it is your are doing just to match...if you get 30% commission, you need to "sell" 5 million worth of whatever.
Dunno what you are selling, how difficult it is to sell, or how much work 5 million won worth would take -- 5 million won worth of gumballs is probably difficult to move, but 5 million won worth of beer is pretty easy to move ...yeah, you said "consultancy" work, but I don't get how you "consult" on a commission....
If you don't know, or can't understand the details, it is a bad deal for you. |

Depends on your sale prospects. Do you expect to be selling 5M won of products? Way more? Way less?
And there's many 'or' in there. Too many.
But yeah, if you are doing sales then the gist of it makes sense. If you can't sell then you can live like a dog, if you do you can expect to be well off. But without a knowledge of how much you expect to make and so much uncertainty in the contract it sounds dodgy. 30% or 60%, what a joke. |

seems i need to mention more things ... my bad !
am now in Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia so exploring an opportunity in Seoul (love the place matey!)
in term of visa the company will apply so I should be on a tourist visa first
well to be clearer the job is in a recruitment firm so the commission according to the person I talked to (a staff) is like :
assuming a manager position needs to be filled and once filled and deal concluded the company gets 10 or 15 million KRW for filling up the post...so my commission would be 30% to 60% of that 10 ~ 15 millions(depends on the management decision) now how they decide and on which basis that's the question i'll ask'em once i visit them.
so i guess now the commission part is pretty much clear and the nature of business as well
So its pretty much a service and not selling gumballs nor beers
As I am actively looking to job so I'll make a trip out there and try to see it in person and understand
oh yea about me I do Project and Business Development, professionaly a System and Network Engineer speak 7 languages (with various level) trying to get my hand on other opportunity too so within one trip if I can cover up few interviews will be awesome .. was in Korea in August (so not my first time )
hope that helps.
P.S: I hope this no one hates the recruiters out here as i saw someone who posted lol cos if things work i may be one |

Um, so you're not a native speaker nor are you going to be a teacher? Why are you posting here? |

It's called Dave's ESL Cafe. There's plenty of non-ESL teachers on these forums, but they generally stick to the others such as General Discussion, Off-Topic, etc. unless they're a former teacher giving advice. |
