USA! USA! USA! We're number 1! We're number 1!
Wait, being number 1 on here is a good thing, right? |

The original list is pretty worthless as many of the countries with the most dept are also the countries with the most external assets. The one from the economists was much more interesting.
I am really wondering if East Asia will get the upper hand on the west in a few generations. The western economy's future isn't looking too bright. Maybe we are moving into prosperity by coming here. |

Goldman Sachs projects Korea to have second highest GDP/capita in the world by 2050, but I wouldn't keep my fingers crossed to get rich by teaching English |

I think those projections are based on if current growth rates stay essentially the same, which often doesn't happen. I don't doubt Korea's ability to go up a few steps on the scale, maybe even top 10, but I doubt they can contend for top spot. Especially when you have those city states who have it much easier to have a high per capita rating. And if Korea don't turn around those birthrate numbers, the task would be even harder. |
