I decided on an apartment earlier tonight in Haebangchon- it was really nice and I just couldn't resist. But now my boss is saying many or all of my hours are going to be at one of our two schools, this one, unfortunately, in Bundang.

Looks like it's a drag of a commute on the subway. I can handle an hour, or a little longer, but this looks like it'll be more like an hour and a half.

I know next to nothing about the bus routes in Seoul. Can anyone suggest an easier/quicker root from Haebangchon/Haebangchon, or even a combination of subway/bus??

I know there's express buses from Bundang to Gangnam/Sinsa station...I don't know the number .Just take that express bus then transfer to the blue 421 bus at either of the mentioned stations.

(Takes 20 mins from Gangnam>Itaewon (in front of the Hamilton Hotel), sometimes less in non peak times)

Thanks for the feedback. I hear the 143 bus from Haebangchon to Express Bus Terminal, then the subway to Bundang, might be the way to go.

That bus link didn't work. I'll try again later.

Anyone know how difficult it would be to drive from HBC to Bundang??

You need to use Internet Explorer for the bus website, and install the appropriate add-ons that aren't available in Firefox, Chrome or Safari.

I think that it'd be faster to get a red bus from the bottom of the hill near Hannam Ogeori (순천향대학병원 stop as sojukettle said, I think). The 143 takes ages going through Apgu, Samseong-dong, then goes back on itself to Seolleung. Then you have to go for another 40-odd minutes on the subway. Def more than 1 hour. At least the red buses take the bus lanes through Gangnam.

Nice... I forgot to add that Jeongja Station is my stop. Do you think you could fill this in with English, though? I finally learned how to read Korean... then forgot it over the last few months I was gone.

Haebangchon Entrance = bus stop out of exit 4, Noksapyeong Stn.
( Blue Bus 110B)
Hannam Oegori = Bus Stop before Hanam Bridge ( Dankook Uni )
( after doing the big corner after Hangangjin Stn there is a stop just past the corner and then the next stop is down the hill - which is the transfer stop you want.- so 2 stops after Hangangjin Stn)
( Red(?) Bus 8100)

sk.

I just realised I confused the 143 and 146. The 143 doesn't go to Seolleung. I think you'd get on the Bundang line at Gaepo-dong. Doesn't change the outcome though.

Yep, Soju Kettle is right for Hannam Ogeori.

순천향대학병원 in English is Soon-cheon-hyang University Hospital. The stop you want is the Dangook University stop. (For some reason the website calls it the hospital stop in the written description, but the maps shows that Dangook Uni is the transfer point...) That's the name of the Hannam Ogeori stop. Both stops are very close together, but the bus website shows only one of the little "maul" buses stopping at the hospital.

It's a hellish commute, but I think that the 110B and whichever red bus takes you to Jeongja is your best bet.

Well the commute from hell begins tomorrow. That website is garbage... can't make it work, even on Explorer, but thanks anyway.

A very simple question that will probably sound stupid: If I end up taking two buses or a bus/subway combo, how do I prevent being charged twice? I'm pretty sure it only counts once, but does your card keep track of that (like if you transfer within five minutes or ten minutes, you aren't charged again)??

You have a transfer time limit of 30 minutes. If you transfer in that time, there is no charge up to a certain distance.

How was the commute? I was debating on renewing my job in the Seoul Station area and commuting to Bundang but then thought the traffic in the morning would be too much.

The commute begins tomorrow. What are your thoughts on which bus to take? Seoul Station is pretty easy to get to from Haebangchon... is there an express bus that goes from there to Bundang??

Using your T-card gets you a significant discount on the second bus, but I don't think it's free...but it might be, I don't remember. Definitely use the card though. Seriously though, as nice as it might be to live in Haebongcheong, the commute would not be worth it for me. It's bad enough when I do it on Sundays to go to church and on a weekday morning it's probably standing room only for the entire ride.
