So here are the forum topics on the main board today:

" An American looking for an explanation "

" What have you failed at the worst "

" Are you empty "

" Working with an alcoholic "

" I got no friends "

" Frustrated "

" Should I sacrifice a sheep "

" The venting thread "

Good lord there are a lot of miserable people on this board. Everyone needs to lighten up, stop taking everything so seriously and start enjoying life. Sure makes Korea look great to all the new people coming.

I frequent a few message boards on the internet, and most are pretty happy. But this board, wow, every day its just doom and gloom and woah is me. To be honest, I think it's kinda funny and in a Schadenfreude kinda way makes me feel good about myself. But even Schadenfreude has it's limits !!

I believe you can add "What the heck is wrong with you people?" to the list too.

That is funny. They should change the name of the off-topic forum to Doom And Gloom.

Most people won't start a thread titled "I'm having a great day" but if something bad happens, people want to get it off their chest or get some advice. That's why this forum is always so gloomy. I think, overall, most people are fairly content; they just don't say so.

Ironically, I just went through a low point so my mood is on the upswing. This mostly means that instead of posting in those threads to help hold on to my sanity, I can just really enjoy them.

I think we represent the not-goodness of Korea brilliantly. The best parts of Korea are hollow and empty, and people grow tired of them quickly. Drinking,... drinking.... um... what else? Um.

On the other hand, complaining never loses its sparkle.

This.

The complainers will always be front and center here on the forum, but most of the people I've met here are cool with life in Korea.

Winter is upon us. It makes people feel gloomier.

However, I had a good day. I took away 3 ipods and kicked 6 boys out of class this afternoon. Had I not had to keep some semblance of order in the classroom, I would have laughed. Most of the commotion occurred after one joker said "Teacher, what is sex on the beach?"

Yeah, it's the colder weather. Takes a few weeks to get used to, then everybody will be back on their feet.

My uplifting quote of the day, to add to yours:

(speaking test, middle school, grade three)
Me: What are you good at?
Student (male): I good at....[looks at all the other guys to make sure they are paying attention] FUUUUUU********INGGGGGGGG.

To be fair, the "should I sacrifice a sheep" thread is an interesting discussion of the ritual of sacrifice. At least it was when I read it--might have devolved since then.

But otherwise, observation acknowledged and seconded.

Oh, I don't know.
I saw a South Park episode last night and thought it might be fun to join the Goths.
