|
|
Hi I am currently studying at University of Sydney and my main objective is to go to Korea and teach after graduating. I am double majoring in International Business and Korean studies. I will graduate in 2012 (if things go as planned)
However my real question is, is it early to take the TESOL/TEFL certicate now? I mean since i graduate in 2012, would the certificate expire? (I know its a stupid question but please bear with me since i am a newbie).
I am contemplating in enrolling into this 100 Hour TESOL/TEFL online course
http://www.koredinco.com/?page_id=19
Has anyone else done it and recommend it?
Can i take this online course while i am in Australia or do i have to be in the country in order to receive my qualification? To be honest I am apprehensive that if i completed the course online, will they send me my certificate to my Australian address?
Should i take the course now since i am on a long break? Or should I consider taking it on the date closer to when I am leaving for Korea?
Would it matter when we receive our certificate?
Thanks in advance. |

They don't expire so go for it.
I'm doing the linguaedge one, and there is another Australian (tottenhamnick?) on here in the middle of it as well. It was recomended to me by someone else who has done it and I have found it pretty good.
I am only half way though because it's hard fitting in time to do it as I work full time. That's probably the reason I would say do it now if you think you have the time as you can't be sure when your circumstances change, you may get extra hours at work, a different part time job, find next year at Uni much tougher, new gf etc etc. |

| You should try to take a face-to-face certificate program of at least 150 hours. Most western unis offer something like this. A little more pricey, but well worth it. |

IF you are ONLY going to teach in Korea then any TESOL course of 100 hours or more will fill the requirements for the "salary bump" in a public school. Get the cheapest one you can find.
It is NOT required for work in a hakwon nor is it necessary to find a job in Korea.
IF you plan to eventually teach outside of Korea then it will be inadequate.
You should ideally have a course of 120 hours with 6 hours of observed practicum with real students (not peers) to meet the expected standard (outside of Korea).
