Hello everyone,

I'm an amateur DJ/practicing hobbyist, and I was wondering if there were any other people on here who were interested in having a space to practice outside of their apartment, but not necessarily a huge party or anything yet.

There's a few places in Itaewon that are pretty chill on the weekdays and I could talk to the owners to get a night started where amateurs come with their equipment and spin for a few hours.

I think equipment requirements are going to depend on whatever final venue we can get. Personally, I have a tiny Vestax Typhoon setup so I can go wherever. I just need to see some responses before I approach bar owners. I'm gonna get on top of this before Thanksgiving with a "first night out" date around mid december, so please get back to me ASAP.

all good. by the way how is the typhoon? planning to buy typhhon or vci-300. but i am on a budget.

@tstroie: gear is expensive here, is there any possibility you are willing to bring over a vci-300 or typhoon. As soon you are in korea I will come and pick it up.

If you guys need suggestions for venues let me know. I can think of one place offhand with a decent DJ booth that might be willing to let you guys in to do your thing on a Monday/Tuesday.

@koen I'm gonna be staying in Busan, would that be a problem? I have no problem bringing you something the only problem is the dough. I'm running out (just bought a new macbookpro and the NI Kontrol S4 and a Reason upgrade) That and it's my first time coming to Korea and I heard you need to bring about a g to hold you over until you get paid. Anyways I have a Hercules RMX which is sort of like the Vestax which I could sell to you for $200. It's got a couple nix but it's in pretty good shape and it runs with Virtual DJ so it's real easy to integrate them. Let me know. Also if you guys do get this DJ night going I'd be more than willing to come through with my Kontrol S4.

More importantly though, what type of music do you guys spin? that would hep with knowing what equipment to use too

Hey everyone, sorry to be so late in responding but this thread really picked up a couple days ago I guess.

First, this is really for amateurs. If you've been spinning a LOT at home, this probably isn't reallllllly for you; as in you might be wasting your time Smile

Seoulsucker, if you could send me the info for that venue that'd be great.

For others; again, I'm putting out the feelers so I don't know where the venue will be, but it's good to see that people are interested so I'll go into phase two of this little project, which is finding a place. MOST LIKELY this will be in Kyeongnidan or Hongdae.

@jdog I know what your saying. But being that I have and now how to mix, it doesn't matter how much experience you have, I'd still be down to kick it and spin, it's a fun time. plus it's better than having the blind to leading the blind...

@tstroie

Im moving to Yangsan, just outside of Busan (its on the subway line) end of the month, starting work in Jan. Im bringing my serato box and laptop, but not turntables due to shipping expense from uk etc. in fact, im selling them before i leave, looking to buy some in korea.

I would def be interested in djing in busan, starting soemthing up there.

I mix hiphop, breaks, house, funk, soul... sometimes dubstep/bass and jungle/dnb if the crowd want... im pretty felxible really, joy of djing with an external harddrive lol

anywya, let me know! would be good to get something going

safe,

tom/tealeeds

I'd be interested in this as well. I've always wanted to dj. I don't have any equipment/ knowledge of how it's done though. At the very least I'd show up and dance.

Not in Korea yet either, but I'd come to this if it were within an hour of where I end up living.

Hey well, count me in. I am {HOPING} to score a job in Bongcheon this Feb. Will have it unless the RCMP criminal check takes too long. I don't have any gear other than a computer and appreciation, but I do have grand designs for a soul music hour(not JUST because it'll be Seoul, though the pun DOES amuse me). Would a tastefully danceable hi-fidelity mix on an iPOD work? I mean, do I HAVE TO meld the beats? I don't know how to do that, though if anyone is willing to teach me I would definitely expend some of my ESL profits fpr their leisure...

Hey all,

Well, I'm super happy that this idea got a lot of response. Unfortunately I think I've become to busy to set this up. Even though it's not a hard event to plan out, I can't fit the time into my schedule.

HOWEVER, I'd really like someone else to try their hand setting it up. Most of the bars in Kyeongnidan would be receptive to this, so location isn't a problem.

So, if someone takes this idea and runs with it, I'd be more than happy and would love to participate.
