I forgot to mention I've been unable to use my US credit card for Air Asia recently (there's many complaints). Major pain. |

ever flown Air Goryo? Cebu Pacific was also pretty crap. |
I've flown Cebu Pacific a few times and have had no problems. Don't know where the hate for this airline is coming from. |
Yeah, I agree Cebu Pacific is a bad player.
There are regular reports of problems with credit card use when using the CP website. People being charged for bookings that were not honored, no refund forthcoming.
For me, when I use my US card sometimes it is rejected outright even though I know it is a valid card that I use regularly. The worst, is sometimes it goes through the whole booking process, gives me a confirmation number, sends an itinerary to my email, etc. and then later will just drop the booking with no record that I ever existed. I have called the CP customer service phone number (long waits) given my confirmation number and the customer service staff says they can see there was a problem, but will tell me there is nothing they can do about it, that I have to rebook.
They have flights scheduled from Bangkok to Clark (about 3 hours by road from Manila) and flights into Manila. For awhile last year they would regularly cancel flights last minute due to low booking numbers and schedule changes. Not technical issues, just changing schedules. Sometimes would cancel the flight to Clark, put everyone on the flight to Manila and when you were in Manila, you were on your own to try to make it back to the Clark area. This was a flight that arrived in the wee hours of the morning. |
Well, I've only used Cebu Pacific for flights between the Phils and Korea and within the Phils so my experience is limited. |

Flights between KL-BKK and KL-Singapore aren't too bad. Lots of passengers between those routes therefore low chance of flights being cancelled. |

This may actually be on the part of your home bank. Some banks and credit card companies will put stops on foreign transactions until they can verify the card holder was indeed the one making the charge. You may want to contact your company and make sure they know you are overseas and using the card. This is what happen to my boyfriend last week when booking our flights with AirAsia....after calling the bank it was sorted. |

Yeah, to be clear my comments above were about Cebu Pacific, not AirAsia. |

OK, I finally booked with Air Asia. Here's what happened:
First of all, one of the promos (on the Kuala Lumpur --> Seoul portion of the round-trip flight) got canceled, thus bumping up the fare by about $30. But, the KL --> Phnom Penh portion got put on promo: from the equivalent of $62 to just $23! So, I guess it balances out.
The next thing I discovered is that the "add-on extras" for the Seoul <--> KL flights are more expensive than for the short flights-- possibly because they're with "Air Asia X," and possibly because they're longer flights. Also, they're in Korean won, so they may be using old currency exchange models. In any case, the medium baggage allowances for the short flights come to $10/flight, while for the longer flights, they're 22 000 Won per flight (bumped up to 36 000 Won for the next higher baggage allowance level)! Also, meals skyrocketed from a few dollars on the short flights to about 10 000 Won on the longer flights! So be aware that the fees do add up for the longer flights...
Finally, my credit card went through fine for the first two short flight transactions, but my card was declined for the long flight. I tried again, but it wouldn't try putting my card through again, as it detected a "duplicate transaction." Long-ish story short, my Canadian credit card company detected someone buying many airplane tickets from a non-Korean non-North American company, and so a hold was placed on my card. Answers to a few short security questions later and my card was re-activated.
So, lesson learned: before purchasing flights from Air Asia (especially mutliple flights), call your credit card company first!
The total cost came to about $580 for all flights and extras. Thank you everyone for your responses and helping me out! |

And a very special thank you to passport220 for all his help and advice. He's the one who suggested I consider spending a few days in Kuala Lumpur while saving some money on my flights to Cambodia.
Thanks so much!
(I wanted to send this as a private message, but I don't have quite enough posts. I thought I would be over 25 by now, but I guess not... Maybe this one will put me over...). |

No problem, glad it worked out for you.
I have a couple of ground transportation links bookedmarked to get from the LCCT (the AirAsia terminal) to the city center that might be helpful to you:
Train (via short ride on a shuttle bus - included in price):
http://www.kliaekspres.com/erlsb/LCCT/tabid/158/Default.aspx
Bus (useful as it makes runs very early in the morning):

Enjoy your trip! |

Ooh, excellent. I declined to purchase a bus ticket into the city centre when I booked my flight (they give you that option), so these links will definitely come in handy. Muchas gracias!
...And I just checked again: I'm still under 25 posts. I really thought that I would be over by now... |
