Wylde...come on man...
The Hummer is a military vehicle. It is meant to be used in *war*.
They adapted this to a civilian vehicle and it represents all that is wrong and ridiculous about the auto industry today.
Who the hell needs a military vehicle to go get his ir her groceries????
This is the sad trend in cars: the bigger and bigger SUV for people who never leave the city...moronic.
Its it not the same as a ferrari Wylde.....not the same deal at all. |

it is exactly the same..
if it wasn't everybody would buy 4 cylinder cars that only served a basic purpose.
some people like big cars, some people like small cars, some fast, some slow, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc........
you say there is no need for a hummer in the city... i say there is no need for a ferarri..
people are individuals.. there is a large variety of cars to cater for a large variety of personal choice.
some people i know in australia buy ford broncos and the like cuz they want their 2 year old child to have a better chance of survival in case of an accident.. this would be a much better chance still if they were in a hummer
just cuz you form the opinion something is idiotic it doesn't really mean that it is. |

Indeed!
I completely agree.
Now, if you have a family and you want a bigger vehicle thats fine.
However, safety does not necessarily come with a bigger car or truck as the SUV accident rates prove.
There is also the environmental considerations to take into account wylde.
Traffic, parking...all those things.
A huge SUV makes all these worse.
If you want safe...and have a family and live in the city, buy a minivan.
Most Hummer owners do not buy it for safety or family...they buy it to show off...big diff here my man.
Finally personal choice should sometimes be limited or guided by the greater good and by realistically assessing your needs.
It is not because you can do something or you want to do something that you should do it. |

To return to the OP for a little bit...
It's great driving in the suburbs of Seoul. Especially late at night. I find I can get home quite quickly.
Seoul is a bit of a headache - but only because of the wacky road signs, lack of parking, and, if you go the wrong way, it's often difficult to turn around.
I haven't had any problems with other drivers. In fact, when I'm merging on the highway, Korean drivers will ALWAYS let me in. Not so in Toronto, where they hoard their place on the road like it was gold. Sure, it may seem a little crazy from a pedestrian's point of view... but in reality, it's decent. There are worse places to drive, that's for sure.
How many of you complaining about the driving actually drive? |

| I have to laugh at the guys with SUV's etc. These ARE off-road vehicles, right? Then WHY do they go so slowly over the speed bumps??? |

Ajuma,
For the same reason that idiots back home who work in the city and would not know the "wilds" if they saw them buy giant SUVs with "off-road" capabilities....
The reason: they are idiots. |

Of course there are rules and I've had the misfortune to have them applied to me twice in one week. The first time I did an illegal u-turn, and got busted by the cops who slyly had turned their flashing lights off and were lying in wait. 60,000 won fine. A few days later I was cruising down a bus lane and got nailed again by a motorbike copper. Another 60,000 fine. However, generally the rules aren't enforced and the cops are disrespected and unwilling to enforce them. One reason I've heard that if they were to enforce the rules the traffic jams in Seoul will multiply ten-fold. It's those illegal drivers that keep the traffic moving.
All said in done it's a pleasure driving in Korea and I couldn't do without wheels. It's like playing dodgem cars without the hitting (well mostly). I get great enjoyment releasing pressure by hurling abuse out my window at hapless drivers who happen to attempt some especially crazy maneuvor close to me. |

Fidel,
You are in Seoul and you bought yourself a car??
Talk about a strange choice...
With the quality of public transit there and the sheer number of taxis you would think that a sane person would forgo buying a car...
Oh well to each his own. |

Even in and around Seoul a car is a great thing. First of all, it's fantastic exploring all of those out of the way places that are all around. Road trips across country are great too. If I go visit friends in other cities, I can take as much crap, bedding, etc. as I need to to stay comfortable. Besides - while on the surface, public transportation is good... and it is! I get tired of foul smelling, crowded, poorly ventilated small spaces. I like having the freedom to roll down the windows, blast some tunes - whatever.
Besides, I love driving... and driving in Korea is a pleasure. I wouldn't be sane without one. |
