Are you on an E2? if so KT probably won't give you a contract without at least 6 months left and a Korean credit card.
Other visas, you should be able to get a contract. |

| but that's just it. I dont want the contract. I want the tablet without the contract which I was told I could buy for 300,000W. Now I'm getting answers that I cant even buy it without the contract. |

Yes, but she told you they might not be selling them without contract right now which is why they might have told you you couldn't get it because your visa might not qualify for contract. |

| I'm just wondering. Is it really this hard to purchase something nowadays? Years ago, people could buy a pre-paid cell phone without a visa or even a passport. But since I found a nice boss to buy things for me, I never needed to go out and get some myself (except for my gps), avoiding being offended most of the time in Yongsan. But since my boss seems to insist on Galaxy Tab, I'm thinking of buying Identity by my self again... but is it really this hard to buy electronics now? My visa is as good as it gets but I really hate to struggle a lot just to buy this... (insert proper adjective here) thing! |

Then why mention (and this question isnt directed at you crossmr, you've been helpful) that you can buy the tablet without a contract at all if they arent right now?
Oh well...maybe this is a blessing in disguise. I'll definitely be going to a Show store today to see if I can look at one but I think I'll wait for the tablet market in general to get its act together with OS and features. Too many cheap options out there (mostly Chinese tablets) running on outdated Android OS with low processing power - that and no direct Marketplace access. |

I'm not sure. You might just try buying it in store. You might find a place willing to sell it without contract, though I expect they get a bonus for the contract. I already have an egg (first style), or I'd be getting this right away. It does look quite interesting. I thought this used that Froyo version of android that everyone is all crazy about, but I could be wrong.
As for marketplace access, most won't have it apparently. |

From what literature says, it ships with 2.1 (Eclair) but will update to Froyo (2.2) eventually.
Unfortunately that gives me some doubt because now the Android team is working on releasing 2.3 (Gingerbread) and 3.0 (Honeycomb) will be the first Android OS optimized for a tablet. |

So I went to several KT stores this weekend to look for the Identity Tab.
I went to a store in the COEX (near the food court) and asked for the Identity Tab/kpad. The woman didnt know what I was talking about (she probably just didnt understand me) so I had my Korean friend mention it to her, and she still didnt understand. So then I told her to turn around and look at the picture of the kpad behind her LOL. She told us that they didnt have any for sale because they had been recalled and were being repaired.
So then we went to another KT store in the COEX mall. This store had the kpad there on the shelf. Unfortunately, the battery was dead. I did get to hold it and it seemed a little heavy for it size but nothing that would be difficult to hold for a long time. What shocked me was how small a 7" tablet is. I think they are REALLY small and I think the 300,000W would be about my limit.
The guy at the store told me that I couldnt buy the kpad from his store without a contract, which explains a lot now. He told me that my best bet would be to go to the KT Membership plaza in Gangnam (near Gangnam Station). Since that's only a few stops from the COEX mall, I decided to go.
I stopped at another (large) KT store in Gangnam just to see if they had a working tablet. The guy said they didnt have any and told me to go to the KT Membership Plaza down the street. He told me it wasnt far. So when I get to the KT Membership Plaza (or at least what I think is this place), it looks like its closed and under construction until Mid-December.
So that ends my quest and interest for this tablet. It's really been too much trouble. Buying something should be a lot easier. |

Yeah, Steve Jobs is not joking when he says 7" is ridiculously small. That statement he made of "people just don't want a 7" tab" sounded so preposterous until I actually saw how it compares. I'm fine with my Galaxy S...same hardware, better screen, slightly smaller, and more capable. |

| The Identity Tab has a very low quality screen in comparison with my old iPod touch gen2, i tried to use it at Yongsan, it's DOA(dead on arrival) devices. galaxy tab will beat them, and iPad will beat galaxy tab, that is. |

Yeah I think this was a blessing in disguise. I'm going to wait until the tablet market gets a little more footing (with better pricing). I get the sense that the Identity Tab was rushed to the market so KT could compete with SK. Plus it just looked so small (to be fair it wasnt turned on). I'm still baffled at how little employees know about it. I've seen press releases for the Identity Tab dating back to late August. |

ASUS tablets coming out very soon; December or 1st quarter of next year. Then you'll see prices plummet as these go mainstream.
Wait just a little bit longer. |
