To cut a long story short. I worked at a really ModEdit hagwon in Guro for one year. When i left at the end of my visa my school owed me around 3.2 mill and because of ill health i haven't yet reported it to the labor office.

Anyway now i am trying to get a position in korea again. But i am being turned down because my old hagwon is telling lies about me to recruiters and prospective employers.

the options are leave the school off my resume but then i have a big gap in my employment history.

or leave it on and give pre warning to whomever but then a lot of recruiters run a mile !!!

the last option is to move my wedding forward by a year and marry my nearest and dearest and get the crap visa associated but at least that will enable me to hang around in korea, nail these ModEdit and get all this crap sorted out.

any thoughts?

3.2 mill

Let's see. 3.2 mill....hmm...severance, 1 month salary, and a flight home. How does that come to 3.2? Without the flight, that's only 1.6 million for salary for 1 month and then severance.

You accepted a 1.6 mill hagwon position? There is more to this story. A hagwon can screw you over a lot more.

Are you sure your best course of action is to screw your old hagwon? What good do you think will come of it? Will you be more employable because of your actions? Will you be more welcome? Will you have more opportunities?

I understand you're PO'd, but if you're going to do anything, do something that's beneficial to you. No good can come from what you want to do.

You're using up a lot of energy in your anger. Imaging what you could do if you used that energy for something helpful to you.

2.2 severance
0.5 plane
0.6 deposit

3.3 total

I hear what your saying but what options do i have?

as long as its on my resume im going to get screwed by these guys.

and because i took a year off, then worked and then spent the last 6 months in and out of hospital i will have a gap in my employment history going back to march 08 !!!

one of the reasons for not having been to the labor board yet is because i didn't need it to screw anything up.

but now they are doing their best to make sure i can't get back in.

if i don't report these guys they will just continue to do this and then im really stuffed.

and what really grates is that i should have just resigned but i stuck it out because i thought it would look bad if i left early!!! great idea !!!

the girl that replaced me stayed 4 months !! the girl that replaced her did a runner after 7 weeks

so i think i did pretty well to stay the whole time only for them to screw me at the end.

so yeah im peeved !!!

Lie. Say you've been to Korea before. Go with a big chain that would not be likely to check your stuff with immigration. My two cents.

i know that i have definitely lost one job because of this. it got as far as yes you have the job. send your stuff over, which i did . then silence for 2 weeks until i managed to get an answer from anyone. only to find out that they had called my old school to get a load of rubbish fed to them.

god only knows how many more have thrown my details in to the bin because of it.

yeah maybe lying is the way to go

if that doesn't work then there is the f2 option but i was trying to give that at least another year !!! Laughing

Why aren't you out 5.5? Are you trying to say that the evil hagwon paid you for your last month and didn't pay you for your flight home or give the deposit (which is strange in itself to accept with a hagwon)? I don't buy it. What happened? Tell us the FULL story. How do you figure .5 for airfare. I would think a flight back would cost something closer to 1 million.

Yes its all true. they paid me 1 months salary but nothing else. because they wanted me to work after my visa finished on a tourist visa and i said no. the flight was 500 including tax. we checked it together.

do you want my hospital receipts as well ? Wink

A similar thing happened to me ... my boss at my first hagwon hated me and without my permission, schools were calling him for references when they saw it on my resume. And no, I didn't do anything to deserve his wrath ... he hated me and two other teachers because he's a psycho (he later got fired though yaaay). I won't go into it any more than that ... anyway it took a looong time, but I finally did find a great job and I'm about to start my second contract with them. I think it's because the person hiring for that school is a foreigner, whereas the other jobs I didn't get, the people hiring were Korean ... I think in Korea it might be more common for people to call references without your permission ... I think most Americans and Canadians, etc. do not do that.
