just curious, what's the rationale behind it?

is it because in Korean "culture", younger people won't feel loose and relaxed if there are older people around whose asses they might have to kiss and kowtow to?

or what?

interestingly enough, stateside, the age restrictions will work the other way.
Some of the more swanky places won't let you in unless you're 25 and UP.

sure it's discriminatory, but it helps keep the idiot quotient on the low side.

"but it helps keep the idiot quotient on the low side."

So American idiots are generally under 25?

And Korean youths are generally "loose and relaxed"?

????

the Korean age restrictions are opposite.. for e.g. no over 30 allowed.

I don't necessarily support the no under 25 rule, good face control at the door can eliminate most potential idiots and eliminate any groups of young guys (your biggest single source of potential problems)

what I'm asking is what is their rationale for putting a lid on age? (we already know the American rationale for occassionally putting a floor on age)

They want to keep the ajeosshis out.

I can verify that the age restriction doesn't apply to women, as I met a 40 year old woman at Tinpan this one time... that was a fun night... anyway, it's to keep out the creepy old guys and the ajeosshis that get all wasted and start fights and cause trouble. And the US soldiers, they don't want US soldiers either.

I went to Eden a few weeks back and had read about them having an age policy, I was a little shocked as Id never come across anything like this before. It struck me as a bit ironic if they were going to keep out punters ten years younger than the dj, Francois K started out at the Loft and Studio 54 so the guy has be at least 50 these days - legend!
Anyway, being 39 I enquired further and they said yes its 35 but its discretionary so if you 'look' okay it wont be a problem. As mentioned earlier they dont want middle aged business men in suits hiring tables and throwing their cash about down there.
Great club Eden well worth checking out if you havent been there before.

Man, that would be so awesome if this became a booming trend and the only thing left for them would be the overpriced bars where they pay 350,000 won for a bottle of whiskey and drink it with some college chick, or the places with all family sized seating and terrible music.

save the 100 bucks you would of spent that night in that racist club! and put it in your kitty, follow step 1
6 times over the next 6 weeks, then head on down to your local travel agent and buy a ticket to Tokyo, Shanghai, Taipei, or Bangkok and spend your money there, not only do you get to travel to a new country for the weekend you get to party in clubs and meet cool people!
this is what I do now.

and if you choose Bangkok... well how does the song go?

Agreed, once you've been out in Korea 2 or three times, you've seen / experienced it all. The club scene here is pretty awful compared to any other country I've been to. Korea is about 10 years behind the times.

agreed, though not sure how "great" the BKK scene is. What do you have? the RCA Avenue strip? yeah, it's not bad, but there are better scenes elsewhere. I'm still a big fan of Indonesia's/Bali's.

I've done almost no clubbing in Korea in several years, but make up for it on my lengthy overseas vacations.

Exactly.

It's not targeted at the 30-40 y/o white guys. They're trying to keep out the bossy business ajosshis and possibly the creepy OLD white guys. They want it to be a safe place for college-aged Korean guys and gals.

At a certain age you shouldn't be hanging out with the college-age kids in Hongdae anyway, though. Just go to Itaewon.

Bali's scene is rife with hookers.

BKK's scene is decent, but a little overrated.

Yup, cause lets be honest, clubs just hate it when some guy pays 500k for a table, and gets trashed on ridiculously overpriced whiskey with a 500% markup. Much rather have a 22 year old, who will pre-game and then order 1 or 2 of the cheapest drinks at the most.
