Cebu Pacific had a sale yesterday for 10/10/10. I got one-way tickets to Manila for 30,000, 55,000 with tax. Sorry, the sale is over. It was that fast.
Anyways, we don't want another domestic flight so we have settled on either Subic Bay Freeport or Puerto Galera.
We are a family with a small child. We want beaches and a little bit of nightlife. Little bit of shopping, also I will be taking some diving instruction.
Any tips to choose one over the other? |

I've been to both and if I had to choose I would definitely do Puerto Galera. The diving there is really world class. Overall, I think a much more pristine and romantic place. Both are relatively small in terms of nightlife and shopping, but fine for a family I think. |

I thought I'd add to this thread (my own in fact) rather than start a new thread.
I am torn between 2 ways to deal with going to PG.
1. Arrive at midnight, get a hotel and catch a bus in the morning.
Pro: Get some proper sleep, get a proper breakfast
Con: Might be more money, might face a traffic jam in the morning
2. Get a private taxi at midnight to batangas, wait there and get the first boat to PG at about 7:30 am
Pro: Cheaper (save the cost of a hotel), face less traffic, get to PG faster
Con: Uncertain what will be open (if anything) in Batangas at about 2-3 am. Might have to sit on the pavement for a few hours before the boats start. |

Subic Bay is not so nice. It is just a small stretch of beach next to Clarke airforce base. The beach is very nice but it is overcrowded with obnoxious Americans. Definitely go to Puerto Galera. I found it to be quite charming there. |

I stayed in this place last year. It was very nice and quiet on a lovely mostly empty beach with a reef just offshore you can snorkel to.

If you decide to stay there, the Premier Cottages are the nicest, even nicer than the Superior Cottages. Clean, modern and with A/C.
Also, I would recommend the first option for getting there. There are bus and ferry combined tickets that leave at 8am and bring you right to Puerto Galera. |

Binch Lover, thanks for the direct answer to my question. We are leaning towards that way, but the only real thng holding me back is that if our plane is delayed by more than an hour, it'd be better to get a private taxi.
We have found a hotel in PG we want (not booked yet) but I will always look at more options. |
