OK. Here's the deal.

My desktop crashed this week and I'm not going to do anything about it for at least a week. So, I'm using my laptop from work in the meantime.

Just decided to buy a English/Korean dictionary app (Prime) and downloaded to iTunes on this work laptop. However, when I go to install it onto my new iPod Touch, it says if I want to sych the apps (i.e., get this new app onto my Touch) it's going to erase all the other apps on my Touch. So, since the only app I have in the downloaded apps file on this computer is the one app -- the dictionary that I just bought -- that means that after synching I would have that app on my Touch but all the other apps I've downloaded onto it would then be gone.

Anyone got any solutions that don't involve jailbreaking to solve this problem?

iPods are great but iTunes is pooh piled high, and you've just found one of the reasons.

Try ths http://ipodtoitunes.net/ - I haven't used it myself, but t seems to fit he bill.

OK, so to save your apps authorize your work computer (sounds like you did that already to download the dictionary) then you should be able to download all the apps again on there. afterwards, taking the music from it is a fairly simple task, accomplished with minimal effort in windows explorer or if you want, through a program. once you've done that, you can then sync your ipod to the work computer and all your apps and media will be saved.


sounds like an incredibly frustrating situation to be in, but at least there's a (convoluted) workaround available. perhaps someone else has a simpler solution, as I am positive you are not the first nor even 10,000th to have this happen to.

Well, I did solve the problem and it worked out just fine.

I decided I'd go ahead and synch since almost all my apps are free ones and I could just go ahead and re-install them all if need be, pain though that would be. But, when I went ahead with the synch that would wipe out all the downloaded apps that weren't in the iTunes library in my work laptop that I'm using since my personal desktop computer has crashed, it asked me if I wanted to authorize this computer as one of the 5 that I'm entitled to authorize. I said yes and it put all the apps that were on my iPod but not in the iTunes library on this laptop back onto my iPod and also added them to the iTunes library on this work laptop, so I didn't lose anything. ;->) Well, I did lose a little something. I had those apps organized into folders and the folders weren't restored, so that little bit of organizational effort was lost, but I ain't complainin'.
