I feel your pain OP... My last job I had to correct essays, but only 10-12 each week. Fortunately, my boss was generous and gave me overtime pay for it, even if I had no overtime that month. Even with the pay I dreaded doing it, since it was difficult at times to figure out what they were trying to say. Frankly, I find grading essays to be more difficult than teaching classes and I believe you should get paid for it.

Just do what I do when I feel I'm not getting compensated properly: put the least amount of effort into it as possible, in fact, don't even try
