I really liked my stay in a capsule hotel in Osaka. I think it was like 20,000 won per night. Not bad! Turns a potentially expensive trip to Japan into an affordable one.

So anyone know of any good capsule hotels in Tokyo?

The one mentioned in the Lonely Planet in Shinjuku is not bad. It is a couple of blocks down from the JR train station and has a pretty good sized sauna attached to it that makes for a nice morning bath and shower.

Coool. Thanks for the info. I'll stay there, if I can get a place.

Can you remember how much it cost? And were there reservations?

http://www.hgpshinjuku.jp/hotel/

Green Plaza Shinjuku

I made a reservation through skype by phoning them at 3207-4923 Says in guide book that it costs 4300 Yen per night, but I think it ended up costing around 3000 when I was there. A bit much, but it is Tokyo. Another good option is here http://www.hotelink.co.jp/english/index.html You sleep on the floor in tiny little rooms. Yukata are provided as jammies as well as rather comfortable futons. Kind of minbak style except you get your own room for pretty cheap. I stayed at the Tsukuba one in Ueno. It's pretty good. Right by the train station.

i stayed in hotel asakusa & capsule. as the the name implies it was in asakusa, tokyo. there was a women's only floor and bath, that's where i stayed. the women's capsules seemed a bit old, but they were clean with lockers, and the bath was fairly nice (if a bit small). i heard that the men's bath was better though.

Look up "capsule hotel" in katakana using Google Translate and learn to recognize it. Lots of signs for capsules especially at major train and subway stations.

For those who have been to the JR Shinjuku station are there public lockers in the station? Do you know how much they run?

I'm trying to figure out where to stash my big giant backpack.

The Green Plaza Shinjuku capsule hotel will store your bag behind the counter. That's where I kept my big backpack. No charge.

I found a pretty cool looking place. I'm going with a friend to Tokyo, so perhaps this is a better deal than those capsule hotels.

Anyone been here before??
