Now making 2.0 a month for 30 hours. How much should I expect if I go to work for someone else?

About that....
People say you should ask for 2.2,2.5,etc.... but basically if you get this you are lucky.

If you ask for too much then they will just goodbye and get another newbie to take your place.

Your best chance is to stay at the your current hagwon(if it is going OK) and ask for more. If you are worth it you will get it and if not then 2.0 is reasonable.

I'm not having a go at you just stating some advice.

G-ese: Koreans pay more for a person's appearance. By the look of you, I'd say demand 2.5 at least!!! Cool
Very Happy (compliment)

I would like to suggest that a second year teacher (assuming they have good references) should be paid 2.2 (or 10% more than your first year). A second year teacher is much more valuable to a hogwan than a first year teacherfresh off the boat.

Unfortunately it seems that 99.99% of hogwan directors are among the cheapest people on earth. The average increases in wages for Hogwan teachers is ridiculous. Most of them are simply not willing to pay for the extra quality that an experienced or qualified teacher brings.

It seems like the wages are capped around the low 2.something range. I went home for a year and did my BEd....have great referencess, Hogwan management experience, and 2 years (now 3) of ESL experience. I did have a chance to take work for higher pay but I eventually settled for a paltry 2.2million. The work is pretty easy (never more than 20 hours a week) but it still seems like I can barely make ends meet.

There are a few opportunities out there to make more money but they are few and far between and the market has taken a downturn.

If you're staying at your present workplace I'd suggest asking for 2.4...with the idea of settling at 2.2.

I make 2.4 and I'm on my second year here and got 1 month of vacation (minus a day or two). The question is... what do I shoot for next?

Same school, 2nd year?

Average at least 50k a month more and if you can, get some more holiday time.

3rd year is where you can really start haggling over things in your favour.
