Hello. I'm from the US and I want to teach in South Korea. I've applied with EPIK and passed the interview but while waiting to hear back from them I applied with some recruiters for private school jobs as well. I heard back from one called the English Language Center in Ulsan. Has anyone heard anything about it?

Also, I like to go out and have a good time. I'd really like to live in Busan but, in truth, I don't know anything about Ulsan other than it's coastal. Can anyone tell me what Ulsan is like? Are there many other foreigners there (while I'm looking forward to meeting a bunch of Koreans I'd still like to have some other people in the same situation as me to show me the rope, so to say)? Is it similar to Busan?

For better or for worse, Ulsan has a fairly tight-knit foreign community. You'll meet lots of foreigners.

Busan is only 60 minutes away by bus or train so getting there is super easy. Though if you party at night the earliest next-morning bus is at like 5:30, so if you finish at 3 or 4 you have to wait (or just eat food or to go a jimjilbang).

The KTX just opened to Seoul. It's 50,000 won and 2.2 hours away, though the Ulsan KTX station is a bit far away from the city.

There are lots of hofs and bars in Ulsan so you'll be able to have a good time if you decide to stay in the city.

i went to ulsan for the first time this past weekend. i heard it's more of an industrial-type city but i was extremely, and pleasantly, surprised! i was up for a wine club event and to watch some expat soccer/football games. the city itself was clean..much different than busan in my opinion. rivers, beaches, mountains/waterfalls, tons of open spaces and a pretty big foreigner community, which puts you into the hands of foreign goods too.

Which ELC is it? There are several throughout the city and location in Ulsan can make a big difference.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I've decided not to take the job. It was the first job I was offered, wasn't really in one of the cities I wanted and I still haven't heard back from EPIK yet (I'm going to wait until they tell me which city I got for them before I make any decisions).

Someone brought up something that I hadn't heard before: someone mentioned Ulsan as being clean as a difference between Ulsan and Busan. Is Busan not clean? Can anyone compare it to a city in the US so I have a reference.
