I have already tried the patch and failed. I have heard great things about Zyban from friends back home. Does anyone know if thats available in Korea?
Its an anti-depression medication and not always used to help people quit smoking. So I am curious if Korean doctors would give me a prescription. |

if your talking about Zyban the phizer brand it does work wonders, my lady stopped smoking within a few months.
but i must warn you it throws your emotions into a tumble dryer for a while you get extremely moody, upset, sad and many others depending on your personality, the drug literally kills your bodies need for nicotine i believe it to be a gland or something.
then i have been hearing about a incredible movie that helps people stop smoking called: Allen Carr - Easyway to Stop Smoking
just before i left South Africa i travelled a bit seeing my friends around the country and alot of them raved about this movie saying it helped them stop.
just be carefull with drugs for stopping smoking, my dad (doctor) has warned me many times that some of these drugs have extremely nasty side effects |

Every time I quit (contradiction...), I used different methods. I think the only thing that worked for me was sheer will power (and snacking in the same spot I used to go and smoke - on the roof).
If you dont want to stop - you wont, simple as that.
And try to find something to do with your hands when your in a bar.
And sorry to be crass but I dont think aids will help you stop smoking. It will make it worse (someone would have said it sooner or later). |

I was thinking the same thing when I read the title. Why would they punish you in such a way if you quit smoking? |

I'm into my 5th month now. Stopped completely cold turkey (almost 2 packs a day) without using any kind of aid - at least not material. Still get the urge even after 5 months, but can get over it OK. Also stopped drinking for that period of time - having a few drinks was the main reason I had failed in the past.
- Only advice I can give - you do genuinely have to want to be a "non smoker". No use being ambivalent about that.
- I did need alot of "mental" exercise. Ended up reading Christian Science "Science and Health" about four times ... that may not be the thing for many people, (and I'm not evangelical about it) but if you want to avoid the hassles with other kinds of drugs, you need to find some kind of 'mind' assistance. I had previously stopped when I was 22, for 10 years; starting again when I was 32 for some strange reason. Back at that time I used some 'positive thinking' stuff. |

The best way to quit smoking is to a, want to, and b, quit drinking for a while too (a month~6 weeks). It's all too easy to cave in and buy a pack when you've had a few, and the next day you still have half a pack sitting in your pocket, just waiting to be inhaled. This is exactly why I smoked on and off for years, and only now have I really given up. |

Is that the mind control drug that messes with brain receptors? I've been really tempted to try it out. Until I read that side effects can go as far deep as maniac depression and homicidal tendencies. |

My husband used Zyban and got it from a Korean doc. He just walked into a general medical clinic and told him he wanted to stop smoking and hadn't had any success on his own. 5 minutes later he walked out with a prescription. He did get the mood swings and turned into a blubbering, crying idiot for a few weeks. He has to go on zoloft and xanax to control them. 5 years later he's still smoke free but he's had to use alot of will power to stay that way. He alwasy says he doesn't want to go through the mood swings again.
I know my local bokwonso, public health clinic, gives the medication for free or nearly free. |

Wear a breathing mask with oxygen tank when entering a stinky smoking area? As an ex-smoker, it pains me that the streets are full of cigarette, trash fire, and vehicle smoke. As you can imagine, the sight and smell will make you yearn for more than just the 2nd hand smoke of an adjoshi's cigarette. If you are trying to skip out on breathing smoke and you don't know where to buy an air breather, you might consider avoiding (for a while) drinking alcohol and going out to smokey places like bars and traditional markets. Just to protect my precious health from the severe pollution, I'd walk through the smokey streets wearing a mask, hose, and tank if I could get something more portable than scuba gear. |

I wouldn't want AIDS for quitting smoking no matter how much cigarettes cost or what they were doing to me. AIDS is much worse |

There's a rather old fashioned product available. It is free but requires a certain degree of effort to use. It's called Will Power. |

I would recommend finding a substitute. They say smoking is a chemical and a behavioral addiction, and so you need to try and attack both.
I think you should start an exercise program. Join a gym, get your self in shape. Workout in the morning if you can, you will set yourself up in a healthy frame of mind for the whole day.
Start eating better. Eat healthier foods. Fruits, vegetables, leaner meats, etc.
Try to limit your smoking to social times at night at first. And then hopefully as you begin to notice the changes from your exercise and nutrition paying off, you might find the will power to ween off the social smoking.
If you invest enough time and energy into trying to live a healthy life (healthy food and exercise) to continue smoking would become just too counter productive.
There is an correlation between physically fit people and non smokers.
Give it a go, good luck. |

You can go to an oriental medicine doctor and get acupuncture done to help you stop.
However, in the end you'll need to exercise a little bit of self control. |
