So, I'm looking for a good beach to chill for a couple days when I'm in Thailand. I don't want a huge party, drunken orgy style, but definitely have a good touristy feel. I'm gonna find a cheap villa or something. (Suggestions are appreciated) gonna be there at end of January.

Also, I would love to do some diving whats the shortest amount of time I can do that in?

Jomtien at the south end of Pattaya, Phuket (away from patong or phuket town), Krabi.... short time so you need something easy to get to.

If you don't want the drunken orgy stuff stay off the walking street in pattaya or the main road up from the beach in patong.

Kho Samet is really easy to get to, and is pretty chill. It's small, but the beaches are nice and quiet. You can take a taxi there from the airport in BKK for like $40.

You can find a nice relaxing beach on Ko Phangan. Seriously.

The northern end of the island has some absolutely gorgeous places that are pretty quiet and relaxing. Plenty far away from the gong show going on at Hat Rin.

2nd on this. I've made the trip 4 times to Thong Nai Pan Yai and will return again. It's fantastically relaxing, with access to diving and other diversions.

I'm going to Cape Panwa for Lunar new year and I am seriously hoping for the most chilled out beach experience, if it isn't I'll be gutted. If it's filled with loud American spring break gtypes I think I might end it all and kill myself.

I've been there twice. Once in 2003 and again in 2007. I'm hoping there'll be a similar scene there when I eventually return. Cool

More likely to end up with a bunch of drunken Brits raising hell than any Americans.

There is a reason that the majority of members of the Tourist police on Phuket and in Pattaya are Brit ex-pats - Brits outnumber the Yanks by one or two orders of magnitude in the LOS.

Oh thagt's jusgt as bad if not worse Crying or Very sad , the reason I chose that aprticular hotel is that it has it's own private beach and is quite expensive so I hope that the party will be going on elsewhere and I can just sleep and listen to my Bob Marley all week.

More likely the party will just be wealthier.

We went diving off of Koh Tao and loved every second of it. You can fly from BKK to Koh Samui for about 200,000 won round trip and take a ferry to and from Kho Tao.

Check out Ban's Diving Resort. They offer a myriad of diving classes and trips and have great prices. They also have a really nice resort with great rates. It had everything you needed to enjoy your stay, without being too 'resorty'

I think the more Ko Phangan gets a reputation as a party island, the more this beach will stay relaxing. Everyone will hear Ko Phangan, google it, and be turned off. I was there last year, sitting on a beach without ANY sound. It was like a freakin library, since there were still people around, but nobody was being annoying.

Go to Koh Chang and take the Ferry to Koh Wai.

It's quiet, calm and breathtakingly beautiful!

The bus to Koh Chang from Bangkok is about 5 hours.

I was actually blown away by how little it has changed over the past six years. They've almost completed a paved access road, but other than that nothing has really popped up.
