Well with the very recent news of N korea's attack, I'm reconsidering coming back in a couple weeks. I was wondering if I was the only one.

As tensions rise, do you think some teachers will bail or not come to Korea at all? Certainly, if the won tanks, it will discourage veterans from sticking around.

How significantly do you think this will affect the job market?

Listen, reconsidering is not a negative. Its a sign of sanity.

If things go back to normal, then sure come on down, the waters fine.

if not, then its better to be home thinking "Thank God I didn't go to Korea then sitting in your apartment thinking "How the *beep* will I get home".

No this kind of thing happens a lot. Most Korean are not shaken by this becouse it is so common. The way it is reported tends to distort and exaggerate the facts. A few bombs landed on an isolated island with a sparse population. In reality there was very little collateral damage only two military deaths.

You usually get a lot of worried North Americans posting on this forum wondering whether they should come or not after something like this happens. Generally people on here scaremonger a lot, probably to put them off, so a few of them will probably decide against it and make competition slightly easier for those who don't get scared off.

a few newbs cancelled their PS offers at the last minute when k-battleship sanked early this year.

i'm sure some newbs will do the same next semester.

Given that American media is typically biased and sensationalist, its hard to tell what's going on.

You guys really aren't concerned? I feel like I'd trust how people in Korea actually feel about this more than American media. But American media is what I got...

I can't speak for all Koreans, but my co-workers and students aren't concerned. At all. They said they are calm and patient, and this will blow over. I'm of the same opinion.

You gotta love Drudge's "IT BEGINS" at the top of his page, calling for, what, the beginning of World War III? Who knows. Typical Republican sensationalism. Whatever it is, it frees up more positions for more deserving and less vapid employees.

The funny(scary) part is that people are still willing to go. Things are going seriously sideways in K land lately with the sinking of the sub and the attack on the island. But hey, money is money right?

Lets just say if the issue really gets out of hand and in a very quick way like it usually does here.

I cant see most teachers making it home. I know that those near a US base may be able to get into it and get shipped home. Though I seiously cant see the rest of our embassies, door knocking or making sure that we are on a plane if war does break out. (My ambassador would probably be on the first one out of here).

If you are ok with becoming a statistic if things go south then you will be fine here. If you need your hand held every inch of the way or you believe that your Government will ride to the rescue then you are probably in the wrong location.

Its likely that things will go on as normal, but as we are living next to a country that doesn't seem to play by the same rules as the rest of the normal world, no one can be 90% certain it couldn't get worse.
