you could also buy a refundable ticket. and get the money back and not use it.

ok, i will now ask for a used ticket stub. Razz

I'd imagine the money is paid before getting on the flight, otherwise the employee would have to be in their home country before getting refunded.

I would like you to be my boss, you would give me a great opportunity to come in here and have a moan. Laughing Laughing

In fact you should open up your own hagwon purely on the basis to annoy them hell out of E2 visa holders and give some of us something to read about on Daves.

ok, i will ask him to mail it to me. then i will pay. Razz

I think it's the mouth open happy face that does it for me. I've just read three or four other threads and they all have that smug online answer and the little happy face at the end. It's impossible to get angry at it, i just wanna pinch those little cheeks.

If you're working another job here afterwards, then you're in a good position. Your boss knows (or should know) that you can easily fight him after you've finish your employment with him.

Ask for a plane ticket back home OR money instead. If he refuses both, then you can later claim that you intended to go home for a few days but didn't because the employer didn't give you the ticket. If it's very obvious that you ARE going to get something from him, he'll go for the cheapest option. So you might not ask him to show you the cheapest possible one way ticket for the day after your contract finishes. Then negotiate for a slightly lower amount of money in cash. Not a lot lower, but enough that it makes it worth his while to consider it. If he refuses, then go to the labor board. He's definitely going to pay you your last salary and severance. The labor board seems to be good at enforcing payment owed. And you'll have plenty of time to take care of it while you're at your next job.

This sounds awfully similar to my current situation, as my "vacation" falls at the end of my contract as well. Can I ask if you are working at a chain of schools in Gwangju? If so, PM me.

No, Im Daegu. But I wouldnt worry about it falling on the end, they are proabably just asking that so they have time to change between teachers/apartments (as is my case).

Troglodyte/Ireland _ good advice.
Actually, I mentioned labour board in passing and it seems to have done the trick. They have miracuously changed their minds. I think youre right about them knowing you have all the time in the world to play legal games, they just play the 'I think youre naive because youre a foriegner card' usually.
labour board seems to be quite fair these days, at least you know you can count on that now.

cheers folks for comments
