I recently resigned with my school, and one of the secretaries took all my stuff to immigration to get it done. She returned, and with her limited english explained that everything was fine, that I do NOT need to pay for a multiple entry thing.
The only difference I can see is that on my Alien card they wrote an extension date. Do I not need something on my passport?
Also, did the E-2 rules change so you automatically get multiple entry? I'm visiting home about a week after my renewal date, and I'm slightly worried I won't get back into the country. |

You should have to pay for your multiple entry visa on a renewal. At least, I've had to for the past 5 years. Unless your school is generous, very efficient (GASP? ) and you were able to clearly explain your need for the multiple entry permit I would go ahead and assume that she didn't do it.
The good news is, you can get it done online in a few easy steps, and have a print-out copy to carry with you in 2-3 days time.

IF your travel dates are AFTER Dec 15, I would wait and do it at the airport.
With the announced changes coming you may not need one OR you may need one but it will be free.
