Corporal and Derrek,

I saw a similar thing just outside the front door of Wal-mart. The mother
was helping her son (six or seven years old) urinate by holding him. I guess she wanted to help him urinate the maximum distance from his body and clothes. Do Korean mothers help their sons too much?

sadly most of my moments have come while watching korean TV (yes i know...why the heck was i doing that in the first place and why am i admitting it....wasted moments you can never have bak in life)

i was watching a korean drama, and a young girl came out of her room wearing a black knit sweater that said in big white letters:"C U N T"....nice cute little girl....i thought i was halucinating....

and i also saw a documentary last week, you know the ones where they go to someones house to film a cute pet or something of human interest and the canned audience makes those stupid 'oooooooo' noises and those subtitles always pop up to indicate something.....

well, anyway, this episode featured a 70 year old woman who still has the ability to lactate and produce breast milk....so she was quite proud of this and kept pulling out her boob and squirting yellowish milk all over the place...her friend did it for her to....so not only was this strange to see (especially while i was eating some anju in a hof)...but it got worse when the womans 7 year old grandaughter settled in her lap like a baby and had herself a drink. yup. 7 years old is a bit old for that and especially from your wrinkley old grandmother. this was filmed out in hillbilly backwater korea...so i dont think its common....but man it was sick.....weird weird weird......

also transgender bars are weird....and its a much bigger scene in korea then you would think

Yeah i went to one here as well. Imagine Korean men in dresses and make up and there you have it. It was pretty ugly and since i was the only foreigner that sparked interest straight away.
I was out of there pretty quick Wink

A VERY bad cross dresser in Myeong Dong. Terrible make up and bad wig, bad dress sense.

A bloke on the phone, carrying food and an umbrella on his scooter.

A halmoni getting a weight off her mind in BROAD view of everyone - she hadn't shut the door.

People eating whole live octopus in one bite.

I remember reading an autobiography written by a German man who was in Berlin when the Russians moved in at the end of the second world war. Apparently some of the Russian troops were sooooo primitive.

One event that sticks in my mind is what happened when Russian soldiers were billeted in the German's house. They complained to the house owner that the fish they were cleaning for their meal vanished when they pulled the chain. Yes, you guessed it, they were cleaning their fish in the toilet bowl. They had no idea of what it was really used for.

At least that doesn't happen here.

I've seen an ajushi bash his girlfriend's/wife's?? face with a half-full 500cc mug of beer. At that point I did have to stand-up.

I saw small soju shot-glasses flying out a door. Smash- smash- smash- then two men came out and pushed each other. The one got so angry that he spun around and smashed the back-door window of his friend's car with his heel.

I've seen a dead man's body hauled up from a ditch (Mokpo) as the blood was running through the cracks of the canvass beddy-thingy. His car had driven too fast, smashed through a barricade where a long ditch with girders going across at various points. I guess his car just sailed in the air and hit one at front-fender point and he flew through the window.

I've seen a young lady who was hit by a car while she was on her scooter. Blood was running out of her ears and she was alive but unconcious. (Just outside of my door in Mokpo- what is it with Mokpo?)

And- lots and lots of peeeee from kids to ajimahs.

I remember walking towards namdaemun from seoul station and seeing this halmoni who looked like she had been hiking a mountain. So I figured it was normal that she was in the resting squat position in the middle of the footpath. Even though there were huge amounts of people about.
It didn't hit me, until I saw a stream flowing from beneath her baggy pants that I realised she was pissing on the footpath. Horrible behaviour anywhere in the world.

Back in 96 I was living on the top floor of a seedy yogwon. The entire top floor was rented exclusively to English teachers. Everyone knew everyone else, and people wandered from room to room drinking on the weekends. At this particular yogwon you could dial the rooms directly by dialing the room number plus an added zero. The phone would ring differently depending on if the incoming call was an internal call or not.

So one night I get an internal call. Its Young Joe and he is asking if I could go to my door, open it, and swat his gf on the rear as she streaked by! It seems that quiet little MinJi was a real freak and loved the humiliation and pain! I could not believe this (as I knew MinJi was a church girl) so I went to my door to take a look. There were about 6 other doors opened. Suddenly, a naked as a jaybird MinJi comes bolting out of young Joes room, tearing down the hallway. She got swatted (I thought) really hard, and at the end of the hall she turned around and ran back into young Joes room!

15 minutes later there is another call asking if we could use more force, perhaps even a belt?! I didnt even bother opening the door that time. Finally the yogwon manager came up to tell whoever was running in the hallway to knock it off.

Seen it all? Ha! This is only one of many memories I have of that time!
