Anyone know how to do this? There are three centres in Seoul, two of which have the same email address. I've written to them. No reply. I have an MA, 8 years teaching exp. 5 of which have been at universities and two years experience giving Cambridge exams. |

They've just trained up a load of examiners at the British Council so maybe your timing's just a bit off there. |

Oh, darn it. Though I DID email them months ago. And tried calling, but they never pick up the phone. |

For the last couple of times I have experienced the same too with emails and phone calls so gave up on it now. As one of my co-workers who also tried to join said, 'they seem quite incestous' and that's fair enough. A lot of jobs in education can seem like that at times.
Check out others examinations such as Cambridge KET/PET and Young Learners which seem to be increasing in demand. |

Not altogether true in my experience. Quite often they turn down BC employees in favour of outside candidates, I remember one training session where, out of 15 new trainees, only two were from the BC. I suppose they must have their criteria, based on qualifications and experience, though what it is I'm not sure. MA + Cambridge examiner + 8 years experience sounds pretty good to me. Don't know how those outside candidates get a foot in the door either unless by phoning or emailing. There's a bit of FCE and YL examining aorund but it won't make a difference financially. BULATS is more common but still not a patch on the amount of IELTS work if you can get it. |

Not yet, but hoping to early next year. Missed the last training session because I was working so hopefully they will have another one soon enough. |

Right, but if they don't answer their phone, or email, I'm pretty much out of luck. I suppose I could go ALL the way there. . . .But I did that in Peru, only to be told no. Maybe if I knew someone who knew someone? |

So, a Cambridge centre got back to me. I guess my last name stood out and we found out that we actually have a lot in common. Glad I changed my name when I got married! |

Ha ha, I'm not sure why BULATS is mentioned. I hardly think a computer-based exam which generates an instant score by itself requires 'examiners' - plus no one except Cambridge is making any money from crappy BULATS.
I looked into becoming an IELTS examiner with the Brit Council in Seoul a few years back. I don't think figures have changed that much, but when I checked out the amount I was likely to earn in Korea from IELTS relative to the cost of becoming an IELTS examiner, and the fact that you have to pay for re-accreditation every couple of years or so, for me it was not really worth it.
You can make a decent amount in China at the moment as an IELTS examiner, but not here. You would be better off training as an assessor for ETS - although whether they do training from within Korea, I don't know. |

If I was an IELTS examiner I'd take hefty bribes and give people 7's and 8's. |

Really? You have to pay for re-accrediation? I was paid to go to the training. Didn't cost me a thing. BUt this was in Peru |

IELTS training and accreditation are free and you average about 1 million a month from the writing and speaking parts. Bulats is quite popular here but not to the same extent. Maybe 300,000 a month if you're lucky

You would get caught eventually as all test are recorded and listened to on a regular basis |
