For newbies, there are Toys R'Us stores in Korea. They are very popular here and they do stock many other things besides toys. Here's an article about the popularity in Korea- http://www.businessweek.com/globalbiz/content/may2008/gb20080520_130610.htm
The actual stores are in some LotteMarts. Some, like Seoul Station LotteMart 2nd floor, have what they call a "Toybox"- a smaller store. Others, like Jamsil, Guro Station, and Bupyeong Station LotteMarts have the full sized stores within LotteMart. The Jamsil and Guro Station Toys R'Us are located at B1 of the LotteMarts. Here's a list of the full size stores, in Korean.

I've been to the one and jamsil several times and it's not in the basement. If I understand that link you have there, the jamsil store is called "world" as in "lotte world" and is on the 2nd floor. That's where I've found it, though it could have moved, I suppose.
At any rate, I was surprised at how expensive some items are there and also how inexpensive other items are. UNO cards are like 12,000 won (compared with like 4 or 5 bucks back home). But my kids got some stuffed animals and toy cars there for surprisingly low prices. |

If the one at Jamsil is full sized, I wouldn't want to see the rest. I went to the one at Jamsil and left rather unimpressed. The layout was horrible. There is one aisle that runs the length of the store with no breaks. So unless you choose to go around the back when you first enter the door from the Lotte Mart side, and then you see what you want, you've either got to walk down to the far end of the store, or turn around and come back.
It wasn't that busy, so that might be a plus for some people who hate crowds, but it certainly had nothing on a toys r us back home. |

There's one in Guri as well, but I've found very few things at Toys R' Us that weren't cheaper online. |

The Toys R Us in the Lottemart in Guro is not located at Guro Station, but at Guil Station, one stop away. |

Where is "back home" for you? hate to ask you but you seem so hypercritical of everything in Korea, like most of us. |

In what way? Have you actually been in a Toys R'Us in Korea or are you just a sock? Please explain. |

There's no question that Toys R' Us here is a bit of a disappointment to those of us who had them at home. They're simply much smaller, which means they can't carry nearly as much. It's still a great place to take kids though. One area where they do excel is reasonably priced English book. Nearly all of English books we've bought for my son are from the Guri Toys R' Us. |

That's a new one. I'm from Canada and even the toys r us in a small town of 80000 is several times larger than the one in jamsil. |

Is the Toys R us still open? I thought it had closed. Checked for it a few weeks ago and found nothing. Anybody been there recently? |
