I am, if I can't find a good hagwon/uni job. I want to move to a different area of town, and I really can't handle some of these middle school second/third graders anymore.
Why? |

I am in the same boat Reise, after two year PS I want to try to teach something else but its difficult out there. I'm in an elementary school now, and dealing with such young kids and teaching 5% of each class gets to me from time to time.
I was thinking about changing to a boy MS last resort? Is it really that bad? Maybe I'll have to stay robot teacher another year! |

rookie, the reason I requested middle/high school was to avoid what you describe, the 'robot teacher' syndrome. I really do love to teach, and I would so much prefer to plan lessons and teach than to repeat or lead games or whatever. The problem is, the majority of the time, I am not actually teaching. I spend 80% of my energy on discipline, which is for the most part completely ineffective. Granted that my school seems to be worse than most, but I regularly get cussed at, spoken 반말 to, flicked off, and I have to deal with students screaming, hitting each other, running around, talking (loudly) throughout my entire lesson, and directly challenging my authority on a regular basis. Most of my co-teachers are useless at best when it comes to discipline, and some of them actively contradict me in front of the students and tell me I'm being 'too strict' when, for example, I make the students kneel on the ground as a punishment for continuing to scream across the classroom after I've asked them to stop several times.
So being a human tape recorder is starting to look a lot more attractive. Being bored/under-stimulated is a lot better than being frustrated and angry. |

Thanks.
I'm trying to find out what people wanting to transfer have heard from SMOE about the possibility of doing so? |
