that's basically what I've heard from several other former employees
Xanadu, what happened with your story? How did they try to dick you from your pay?
Do they still pressure you to go to their company 'seminars' and do other crap outside of working hour with no additional pay? |

They tried to cheat me out of my severance because of a number of reasons. First they tried to say that I would not be finishing a full contract period because I was sick for 5 sick days plus 4 additional sick days during which I made quizzes for classes and was told nothing about this, which happened in the very beginning of my contract.
I argued that this was absurd and not grounds for docking severance. Then they tried plan B which was basically attacking my "attitude" and that this is the "american way" and all I want is money. He tried to tell me that after he left he still had to run the school, and that during seminars or meetings I never took notes. He even said I infected the other employees with my bad attitude. And I simply kept telling him that no where in the contract does it stipulate that you can do this, and that it is illegal. He proceeded to laugh at my knowledge of the law.
After a while I stopped going to the seminars.. The teachers just come in, go in the back, and sit there and do nothing for about 2 hours. They hold about 3-5 seminars each quarter and recently tried to pretend like they are mandatory(they are not). They are just a waste of time and the Korean teachers feel very pressured to go and a few of the Native teachers felt the same way, but it did not really matter if you went or not. |

I got hired by 7s English to teach at another school, called Geneye. 7s English provided teaching materials for them and teachers as part of the contract. Geneye is a great school, the employers are really fair and legit.
However, I had the opportunity to work with this dude for like couple of weeks and even went drinking with him. He told me about his life how he was an engineer and went on talking about his experiences at burlesque and that every man in Korea does not this and it's natural.
As far I know, 7s English was to continually provide Geneye with teaching materials but my boss and all the other English teachers concluded that the system sucked because they kept on changing books and could not develop a single, solid teaching system. After months of my boss complaining about this, 7s English just stopped sending us materials and that is how our company drifted off from them.
Therefore, yes, I can honestly tell you from what I have experienced, he is not really a trustworthy person.
Oh, did I mention I got hired without having a degree? Yea... |

sounds like them alright, all I hear are bad reviews from former employees, both English and Korean teachers. This is the one in Bundang.
They also made their employees work on Saturday and holidays WITHOUT overtime pay. Clearly one to stay away from.
Funny how you mentioned the boss goes out drinking and going to room salons, meanwhile they tried to screw teachers from their severance, pension and has been late in their pays. Wonder where all that money went. |

Just a little update on these guys, was talking to a former teacher and a couple of current ones, 7s also does not give vacation days. Sure it's on the contract but you have to request them and 99.9% you wont get them. They will not compensate un-used vacation days either.
One reason why I've had it with hagwons. |
