I'm not typically a grammar/spelling nazi, but this has gone too far. This is one error I can no longer overlook.
All over this board I see people using "advise" as a noun.
It is spelled differently and pronounced differently from it's noun form, "advice."
I'd just like to advise everybody then to please consider taking my advice and being careful with how you use these words. This is ostensibly a board for ESL teachers after all.
Don't ask people for advise.
Don't offer advise.
And definitely don't just take my advise.
Look it up yourself.

I hope you're joking! In your defense, or is that defence? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. |

I think that one can go either way.
We should start a thread where everybody can post examples of poor grammar from this forum. Shame people into learning how to speak good. |

For every one person who has a problem with noun and verb forms there are two people who moan about misuse of the apostrophe. |

oh sorry, can you hear me better now that my foot is out of my mouth?
Sure I'll become an object of criticism too, let me be the first to be shamed. That's a mistake I habitually make and a little attention called to it would be a good thing. I seek only to improve the state of writing on this board, regardless of who is making the mistakes. |

I would like to take this grammar-nazi thread opportunity to again remind everyone that "definitely" has never, and will never contain the letter "A" in any shape or form. Thank you. |

Wouldn't that be poor spelling rather than poor grammar? Let's not play this game as I will loose for sure! |

True, but I believe the term "grammar-nazi" has come to represent anything overly concerned with the semantics of the English language, be they grammar or otherwise. |

What is English anyways?
You got Old English, Middle English, Modern English, British English, American English, etc...
Do you hear anyone talk like Chaucer wrote in the Canterbury Tales? |
