Wine's so expensive here! Would anyone recommend a decent table wine that's 10-20k? I like Bordeaux and Cabernet types, usually. Shiraz is nice sometimes too.

What do you mean by "decent"? You can get cheapish wine at the big supermarkets.

Do the Costco's in Korea sell wine? I know Costco has a pretty good selection of wine for a decent price.

I saw the wine sections at the supermarkets, but wasn't sure what to get. I was never really into super cheapo wines, but it seems that stuff that costs under 10 bucks at home is nearly 20 here. I'm a bit wary and would appreciate some recommendations.

I used to spend about 15-30 bucks on a bottle, but those same bottles here cost upwards of 50k!

Anyone have any good recommendations? Just a nice table wine.

Yellowtail is only a little bit more expensive than it is at home, and quite decent.

gato negro is good and usually around 10

i complained a lot about wine prices when i first got here, but I learnedif I keep my eyes open I can find some really good deals.

Koreans like those crappy sweet wines I think, so those ones often cost more than the better quality wines.

Costco has a horrible selection in Korea. It's all overpriced and there are no cheap wines there.

You should know that all Emarts and Homeplus locations sell different wines, so you might have a good store, might not. Lotte usually has smaller selections with slightly better variety. Lotte Mart has smaller cheaper selections compared to the actual department store.

Emart- Usually stocks cheaper wines. Best deal ever in Korea was for a Spanish red from Casa Solar, it was 5,999.

Homeplus: Has better sales and now importing from Tesco.

Im not going to go through and make suggestions for specific wine. Just remember this, never buy wine in Korea that is not on sale! It's a ripoff. Join Homeplus's wine club and only buy the things they put on sale.

Also, Yellowtail is a horrible wine. Used to be good but it's garbage now.

If you want to go cheap, Kim's Club has a wide selection of not particularly good wines for under 10,000.

The Homeplus in my neighborhood was always runnings sales on at least a few different brands in that range, from many different countries, and some were surprisingly good. Half the fun of being a wine enthusiast is exploring new wines!

There's a Chilean Merlot called G7 that is very tolerable as a weekday wine - Emart sells it for 6,900.

There's also a Californian Merlot called J.W. Morris that is the best I've had for under 10,000.

I imagine most ( if not all) would have the option of doing The Wine Club. EB

Homeplus has a decent Alice White for about 16 or 17,000 won. It makes a nice table wine that doesn't cost a lot.

You can find plenty of wine in Emart for 10-15.000won a bottle..
you have to go through them . Some are garbage some are good, some are drinkable, some are terrible. try and learn.

remember Italian or French wines which are selling here for 10.000won are worth 1 or 2 euro in their native country. so that will tell you what you are drinking, you are drinking a bottle of wine worth 1 dollar!
don't expect to much. but that being said, there are still decent wines.
cheap wines with good grapes in famous locations will still be your best bet.

TORRE ABALDE - from spain was a nice wine it cost like 12.000won
Colle Cavalieri - from Italy is around not bad. 12.000won
anyway experience wines, its fun.. but you can find decent wines for around
10-15.000won
