Overall, I'd say I'm fairly keen. My comprehension skills are excellent; I scored perfect on Reading on my ACT. Wink

When I am online, I don't necessarily word things the same as I would in writing or more professionally oriented materials. I am a casual speaker as well. Due to my, err, awkwardness, I tend to drift off mid-sentence in personal conservations.

I am a much better writer than speaker, however.

I have, like others, become dumber in that much of my conversation is geared towards non-native speakers under the age of 7. My husband teases me about this frequently.

In terms of flowery language, this is also something I lack. But in reading, I am unable to visualize well and tend to scan over visual descriptions. I visualize words over pictures, if that makes sense. I appreciate straight to the point writers, Hemingway, whose ideas are the focus, not the language.

In conclusion, I've met some people who are much more proficient than I and some who I question the authenticity of the term "native speaker." I am somewhere in the middle and that is okay.

So, you tend to drift off mid-sentence in personal conservations? Is that while you whisper to your husband in rainforests? I apologize, I just couldn't resist. Laughing
