I had a quick question about my visa. My E2 visa will expire on Dec 7th. I will be applying for a temporary extension this week that should last up until the end of Dec. which means I will be on a tourist visa for most December.

On Dec 15- 18 I have a trip to Phillipines planned. My questions is will I have any problems re-entering Korea?

Thanks for any advice.

When you leave Korea any residence privilege or re-entry status will be canceled.

Immigration won't give you any problem when you return (you will get a B1 (90 days) or B2 (6 months if you are Canadian) stamp on arrival

BUT

since you will be returning without a visa of any kind (tourist or E2) the AIRLINE probably WILL give you a problem unless you have a ticket to somewhere AFTER Korea.

If you are flying on one of the Philippine airlines they WILL NOT let you board your return flight (to Korea) without onward passage out of Korea dated within 90 days (6 months if you are Canadian) of your arrival into Korea.

would one of those ticket reservation work to get me passed airline to come back to Korea? I'm talking about the reservations from korean companies that don't require you to pay immediately and I can refund it later.

the reason I'm hesitant about buying a ticket leaving korea at this time is I'm not sure when I will need to leave. I'm still doing job interviews at this time.

If you are flying back on your own dime you will need to make a visa run to get your new visa anyway so....

Get yourself a refundable ticket to Japan for about 88 days AFTER your return flight into Korea.

If you don't need it or need to change the dates you can refund it or change it. You keep the boarding agents (in the Philippines) happy (so you don't get denied boarding) and save yourself a ton of problems.

Best bet is to get it directly from the airline. Korean air only charges 30k won for a refund and will usually change a ticket for free (assuming the same or lower price on the flight of choice).

Is this a new policy?

I ask because in my personal experience I've left the Philippines several times for Korea. Never had onward passage out of Korea booked and never had a problem. And of all the times I've done it (5) I've only had one person ask about it. I said I was working there and he stamped my passport and waved me on through. And 4 out of those 5 times I had no E-2 visa or tourist visa.
