| Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm not as excited about the online thing as I previously was. My new thinking is to just save up my money and do a 1 or 2 year program at a community college in something like nuclear medicine or ultrasound technician. Practical and you're either qualified or you're not, none of this comparing backgrounds between candidates. |

That is a great idea JLB.
At the Polytechnic I work at, they cannot get these positions out the door fast enough. even in the recession, the nuke-med and ultrasound techs were getting, establishing, and maintaining employment and getting really good money for it. Good luck!

I think that college is the way to go. When I returned to Canada, I went to college. I was offered a full time position before I even finished my program!
Search college websites for unique programs. Being from NS, which has 1 college, I ended up moving to Ontario to attend school. I went to Mohawk College, which has the only Packaging Design/Management program in Canada. Find a niche program. Chances are that not many people attend, and even fewer will have university degrees too. This makes management positions in your chosen field more open for you.
I toyed with the idea of an MBA, but I have a BComm and feel it would have been redundant/look redundant to HR people. An MBA is intended to give management / business training to people with industry specific backgrounds - the engineer who is moving into the management end of the business, graphic designer who is moving into the business end of their advertising firm, the fire fighter who is becomng a chief in the dept. Those are the people most helped by MBAs, and probably have them paid for by their organizations. |
