|

I'm about to move from London to Iksan (30 mins from Jeonju, 1 hour from Daejeon) and it will mean a very lonely Christmas as the one person I know there is going to be flying home.
Was anyone in this position when they first arrived? What's a good thing to do at Christmas? |

A case of whisky and a few Bing Crosby cds should cure your Christmas blues! |

What other way is there? That's the best way! Also, before you do anything, go and get about 20,000 won worth of Taco Bell and put in your fridge for when you get the drunk munchies. |

Be social, meet other foreigners in your general area and find out what they are up to. Misery loves company. ha ha.
Seriously though I've had two Christmases in Korea and both have been fine. Not as nice as back home, but interesting. |

Haha! Maybe. Hmm, I've heard of this 'Taco Bell' you speak of but never tried it. No Taco Bells in the UK. Have a feeling Iksan won't have one but I could be wrong.

Yeah, I'll try to see what's going on. I'd be fine with it if I was arriving a slight bit earlier. Just a bit nervous about trying to arrange Christmas plans with people I don't really know. It is probably better than drinking alone though. |

Eh, don't knock it till you try it. I'm always the funniest and best looking guy in the room in a situation like this. |

Yeah, I've found that in those situations I'm also the most intelligent guy the room as well, although the conversations are quite a bore. |

dont worry, youve got plenty of time to meet waygookin (foreigners) before xmas.
Failing that, go to a ski resort. If Im going, you can come with me and the missus
but dont worry, Im sure if you make a concerted effort to find other foreigners, you'll have something to do over christmas. Even if you dont know people well, Im sure most folk wouldnt see someone on their own, as they are in the same boat as you (ie being away from home).
Ive spent many a christmas day with people i met on the street (for example in North africa), it really wasnt that bad. |

Being a habitual loner myself, I'm glad to say that Christmas isn't the same here. Just about everything will be open, the buses and trains will still run and the day will go by faster when you don't have Christmas cheer poured down your gullet. |

Don't worry, Christmas will be on a Saturday this year. Go to Seoul for the weekend. Don't stay in that small town of yours, it's too risky for a crap christmas. Follow my instructions and you're guaranteed a good xmas.
Given that you're from the UK, i can presume that i know what kind of nightlife you're looking for (if you're into nightlife that is). You should go to Hongdae (specifically clubFF & gogos). They should have a chrismas party that Friday and Saturday night. You'll meet lots of people there.
If you're not into nightlife, then ignore my advice. |

Ugh. I wish I thought this was a good idea. I worked at Taco Bell in high school and have had an addiction ever since, but I've never found a good way to reheat that stuff. Slimey hot lettuce and warm sour cream makes walmart kimchi taste good. |
