I know that Americans get their pension money back upon completion of a contract with SMOE. Do you know if brits are entitled to it too? If so, how do you go about claiming it?

No, you don't get it back now. You can get it as part of your pension at 65 if you jump through the necessary hoops.

No, you don't get it back now. You can get it as part of your pension at 65 if you jump through the necessary hoops.


This depends on who you talk to at the pensions office. My last email from the head of the international pension centre was a very definite no - nothing we pay here will "count" towards our UK pension. It's dead money people. We can pay voluntary contributions to the UK but we still have to pay here.

Sorry, I should have clarified. It is possible, or so I believe, to claim the pension in Korea when you reach 65 (or thereabouts). You're right in regards to who you speak to in the UK pension office.
