I think you are the one who should be ashamed to be an English teacher. In any case you definitely need to take (or re-take) a course in Linguistics, and basic logic.

If this isn't a clear case of someone claiming to have developed something, I don't know what is.

| He will share those strategies he developed in further videos yet to come. |
None of his "future" videos contain anything original, all of the ideas and strategies that "he developed" are things I learned working at a language school. Yet he is clearly taking ownership of them.
And yes, to claim on one's LinkedIn site http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=70163941&authType=name&authToken=Ay7I&trk=pbmap that one is a "Professor" (the guy doesn't even have an MA) is a bit much, and indicates that he will not hesitate to make false claims for personal gain. |
Are people seriously getting hung up on the word DEVELOPED.

Isn't there the possibility that this guy took a teaching idea or strategy and changed it to suit his own needs..... therefore DEVELOPING it???? |

| I don't think I would've noticed any problems with the video if he didn't do the fake surprised thing at the beginning. So cliche it made me cringe. |

The guy certainly intended to use it for a Korean-only audience.
faux-professional haircut.
Just for that, he deserves some jokes thrown his way. |

Nice try whipping out the dictionary.
Yes, I suppose we all live out our lives in strict accordance with the literal meanings of words.
Why, just the other day, I overheard a guy saying "I love you" to a girl in a club, and it warmed my heart to know that he was going to treasure her in the most sincere manner.
I also overheard a recruiter telling my friend over the phone that the conditions of an advertised job were really, really "good", so I know he has found the right place. |

I find it interesting that in both of your examples, the words "love" and "good" are not used in accordance with the dictionary definition in order to deceive, just as people are claiming the guy in the video is doing with "developed." |

I WHIPPED OUT THE DICTIONARY because you obviously need the help.
That is what the word DEVELOP means.

I don't know why you guys treat ESL classroom principles like something you invented and he's stealing from you, or some kind of sacred object that cannot be claimed by anyone to be their own. So what if he says he developed some stupid classroom techniques? It's not hurting anyone, no one is going to call you out in an open class, saying "Wait a minute, that dorky guy in the video invented this! You copied it from him!" or something.
And yes, inference is key. He's being quite general with the term "develop". Maybe his application of ESL principles is his own style. Why does that leave a bad taste in your mouth to say that he developed it without specifically saying he developed his own specific style? Don't we all have our own styles of teaching we could claim to have developed?
Agreed that he does look like a dork, though. |

Hey Sofaking,
Don't get too bent out of shape over it.
When you get an MA in TESOL or Linguisitics (or even a CELTA) you'll understand.
You'll understand it even more if you try to land a uni job. |

Well, you can pull all the degrees and certificates you like out of any orifice you like... and you are still wrong.
Show me that I have made an error in anything I have said.
You really have it in for this guy and the fact is thet YOU have probably interpreted what he said wrongly.
I know nothing about your diplomas, degrees and certificates, but I'm sure you have a PhD in BS and a Masters in jumping to conclusions. |

Here's your error. You're trying to speak to something you admit you really don't know anyting about. |

This thread would have been way better if it had been in the off-topic forum the OP had simply said, 'ha, ha, look at this cheesy video!'
I can't believe people are actually having a serious discussion about whether or not this is plagiarism. |

Times are tough, everyone needs entertainment. Or a trial balloon on what folks could get away with. Personally, I think it was a sales pitch...no more ..no less. |

| I developed fire, beer, and the Internet, though Al Gore stole my thunder on that last one -- oh yeah, and thunder, I developed thunder! I have incorporated all of them into my life experience, and in this series of videos, I will share with you the saga of how this development came to...er...develop.... |
