I have just watched a korean teacher walk in and say something to teachers aides in my office. They seemed a little put out afterwards, so I asked why?

It seems that our education office is doing an inspection of our school. The school therefore wants them to provide the daily reports of the classes that date back to September.

They just never told the teachers aides that they needed to do daily reports, so they have one day to come up with 3 months worth of daily reports. (Imagine that, trying to think of 3 months of classes, I am the last to know anything so I am expecting to be asked to provide lesson plans the day after they were due in Razz ).

To say that they are slightly pissed is an understatement. I told them that most foriegners would just create a basic template and move a few words around here or there and print out 3 months worth.

Its interesting to see that it isn't just us that have these silly demands dropped on them. You also have to question the intelligence level of the person who thinks they can suddenly come up with 3 months worth of daily reports in one day.

Or expects a school to create daily reports of every class as there isn't that much you can really write that needs to be said. Most of my reports would read as 'class was ok, studied english, well behaved'.

I really feel for them as it seems to just be a make work exercise for the education office.

This made my day suddenly 60% better. It's a consolation to know that other people's lives suck as much as or possibly more than one's own. (Actually mine's pretty damn satisfactory.)

I came to the realization a long time ago that our long suffering K counterparts have far more ridiculous demands thrust on them than we do, but don't have the skills to minimize the workload in the manner you suggested.

I wouldn't say that. At the beginning of the year at the public schools I worked, I would see a lot of teachers cutting and pasting entire curriculums, changing the dates to conform with school holidays/activities, changing some things here and there and printing them out. They DO have the skills and even better, someone has already done the work for them.

I never saw my coteacher create anything entirely original or on her own. Everything came from something off the teachers' Daum websites.

I remember writing "lesson plans" for an afternoon class of advanced students. The first year I did a really detailed job of it and when the provincial officials came to inspect all the curriculi, they flipped through mine in a couple of seconds and signed off on it.
The following year, I just copied the table of contents for the lesson plan. Each plan took less than 5 minutes.
