Hi, I plan on moving to Korea to teach some time in the near future, and I have some questions concerning F4 visas. My understanding of it all is really hazy, and I just want to make sure I have everything right, plus I have more questions. If I'm correct, I read that if my parents have not officially renounced their Korean citizenship (I don't have one, I have a Canadian citizenship) before my 18th birthday, I have to serve military duty in Korea? I'm 19 by the way, so if that is true, I guess I'm already screwed. What I need to know is if the above statement is true, or if not, is there something I can do to get around that and make sure I won't have to go to the army if/when I get there?
Any feedback will be of great help, thanks guys. |

For a Canadian, 'renoucing before 18years old' doesn't apply. (only applies to USA gyopo). So renounce and you are sweet as far as ROKA is concerned. |

i dont think both your parents need to renounce korean citzenship. just one. you only have to send one of your parents documents. maybe wrong though. |

@andrewchon: Okay, that makes me feel a lot more at ease. I felt a little curious when I read an F4 visa thread always pertaining to a US citizenship and couldn't find anything that had to do with Canadian citizenship.
Just to be safe, I'll ask both my parents to revoke their citizenships officially. Thanks a lot guys; your feedback is greatly appreciated. :3 |
