That stuff has made me trip out before.
I love it. You can go to the store and get a good buzz for about 1300 won. |

That's only for one bottle. I need about 4. |

Agreed with a previous poster, its like a hard cider from back home. Good, fresh homemade makkoli tastes amazing and is so refreshing when served ice cold on a sweaty summers eve.
That said, the hangovers I've had from makkoli are some of the worst I have ever had. In fact, I quit alcohol altogether 2 months ago (haven't touched a drop) after a particularly bad makolli hangover. |

So what brand was that then? Was it made in San Francisco ? Sounds like it was laced with something a tad stronger. Thinks: oh, if I could only go back to those halycon days of my youth...
The stuff I was drinking last night is called, 우국생, Woo Guk Saeng, which I think my wife said means 'Our rice beer'. It's made with Korean rice, rather than American rice I guess. I don't know if I'm somehow projecting my feelings onto the flavour - because it is slightly more expensive, and I was probably anticipating something better quality - but it tasted great to me. I thought it was miles better than the regular stuff in the green bottles. You can get it in the usual places though - it's in a clear plastic bottle rather than a green one and goes for around 1600 Won.
I agree - one bottle gives you a nice buzz but I drank too much last night - three and a half bottles is excessive I think. I know we're told never to say, it but anyway, I'm going to say, 'never again.'
Still got that half bottle left actually, plus one more. Hmmm, maybe I'll do the old hair of dog trick one last time. Drunk in the afternoon, it's come to this! |

I am a big fan of Seoul Makoli in the blue clear bottle. The best place to drink in is in Kwangjang market. This is ajoshi heaven. Great soodai great side dishes |

I've had a lot of makali and I'd have to say that Busan's Saengtak is by far the best. IMHO |
