man, we are on a roll! pardon me while i hockey a loogie in k-style celebration.
also, what kind of eggs have you been eating? |
Now I can't be blamed for American slang for the term vomiting. The sport has been around almost 2,000 years before your country starting butchering the English language
Definition of the word 'hurl' from some online free dictionary that popped up first on google (I know...I should prob try harder)
1. To throw with great force; fling. See Synonyms at throw.
2. To send with great vigor; thrust: hurled the army against the enemy.
3. To throw down; overthrow.
4. To utter vehemently: hurled insults at the speaker.
5. Slang To vomit (the contents of the stomach).
v.intr.
1. To move with great speed, force, or violence; hurtle.
2. To throw something with force.
3. Slang To vomit.
Most of them (with the exception of the slang words) are about moving at a great pace, high speed, violence etc etc. Put the word in the continuous tense and you get Hurling. |

So youre saying that because its on wikipedia, you must be right in this instance?
Theres no reference on that page. And wiki is lazy people research anyway. So overall, useless counter argument that really.
Even if it wernt, theres a lot of countries not coloured on your map, some of which were quite densely populated last time i checked.
Zum biespeil ' das bundersrepublic deutschland' wie sagt 'fussball' (which roughly translates in a ball that we pass with our feet) an der schwietz etc.
So who didnt really think before doing 2 seconds of research on wikipedia?
Your dissertation papers must have been a wealth of knowledge... |

Also that map shows Ireland calling it soccer, most will call it football.
It generally gets called soccer from june-sept because that's when the main gaelic football championship season is in play.
Even then though we tend to call gaelic football 'gaelic' or 'ga' and we call association football 'football' 'footy' |

Qatar is simply not a fun place.....it's stupidly hot, it has no historical monuments, no places of interest, nothing to do, no drinking culture, no nightlife........it's basically just putting tens of thousands of World Cup fans in a place none of them want to be. |
Have you been to Qatar?

If wikipedia articles are accepted then this one should be accepted as fact, especially as this one has references

Two very different levels of complexcity, strategy, and method of play between rugby and (American) football. |

Oh, have you, I am sorry then you probably didnt really enjoy it as a tourist.
I probably speak less English than you do, neither have I ever travelled to Qatar or whatever-tar... But I know every country has its unique culture and tradition, climate, geography, etc, which are usually what foreign tourist are looking for... all countries are different and most countries in the world are developing or under-developing countries... sports bring people together because they offer every country and race the equal chances to participate... you might not be satisfied, but the Arabic world has been cheering for their success (probably without alcohol, isnt it boring )...I am sure they deserve some victory as well
I always "look down upon" those judgmental people who think some countries or cities are superior thus other place (eg. Jeolla do) should not stand a chance for doing something...
I just made fun of your arrogant and ignorant comments is all. |

Rugby is very strategic, the only difference is that rugby players don;t have to stop after each play to be reminded of what the play entails.
I am being pedantic, I like American football, I think it's good. My problem with it is all the advertisement breaks killing what could be a much faster game. |

I hate the football/soccer argument, mostly because people are so uninformed.
Football is not called football because you kick the ball. It is called football because it is played on foot as opposed to on horseback. Rugby, american football, aussie rules, association football (soccer) and Gaelic football are all from the same source. They all have evolved in different directions though.
In Association football when it split from rugby, it was still possible to handle the ball. The split occurred because rugby you can run and handle the ball but in association football they had marks like in aussie rules. Also soccer allowed hacking..which you can't do in rugby. That's it. It's not called football to differentiate it from games where you handle the ball as that was not outlawed in the original version of the game.
Aussie Rules was codified before Rugby football and association football and is probably a good insight into what all those games looked liked originally. If any game deserves to be called 'football' that is it.
I call Gaelic football 'football' when I am in ireland, association football 'football' when talking to most other people and american football 'football' when talking to north americans. |

I absolutely have no notions of superiority......it's not about that at all....It's just that Qatar is really unsuited to hold a World Cup. In every way. Can you think of one good reason why Qatar should hold a World Cup?
Here's a quote....
Former Belgian star Marc Wilmots thought the decision was a negative one for football.
"Russia is a political choice and Qatar is an economic choice," Wilmots reflected. "You can say that to some extent the sport has been the loser with the decision for these two World Cups."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/9250612.stm
Qatar defeated bids from South Korea, Japan, Australia and the United States............As a football fan who also wants a good vacation while at the World Cup, which of these countries would you have preferred? Qatar would have been last on my list.
Every observer of football politics knows what's going on here. FIFA are corrupt as hell. |

I might be the least travelled person on this forum, but I know Doha is very close to Dubai, where tens of thousands of tourists visit each year. I assume all those rich people wont go there if its weather sucks or life there is boring, of course Doha is not Dubai...but if both cities are oily-rich, why won't both of them be fun to visit (if not now, then lets say in 10 years)
When Seoul hosted 1988 Olympics, the city was still quite shitty, at that time internet was unheard by most people so its impossible for us to track back the public's reaction to Korea's winning Olympics bid, but I heard it was a successful Olympics and most important, that Olympics helped a country boost its self-confidence and economy, which probably is why many foreigners like us are here but not any other country.
I have no idea how much money is behind the whole bid, but I am sure FIFA has its considerations, one quarter of the world is Muslim, maybe they dont play football, but I am sure they could still be fans, if they enjoy the game, would their opinions count? |

Sore losers. It annoys me how some bid committees from 'certain' countries often scream corruption when they lose a bid. I know Canadians always blame corruption if they lose a bid. |
