I wish the Korean govenment would follow the Irish Government and ban smoking at all public places. It's a serious health risk, to smokers and non-smokers like me. I think it's great that the Irish government did this move, good for them for for caring about their country and people. |

Public places? Like where? Outside?
There is no smoking on public transport, in shopping centres, cultural centres...
So whats left? Korean restaurants, bars and pc bangs. For all of which, except for bars, non-smoking establishments exist. |

The Irish government as off midnight Sunday night, brought in a law which prohibits smoking in bars, in recent months it has also brought in laws regarding smoking in restaurants, hotels, and the work place. This law has been in the pipeline for a long time, so its not that new, but is a pretty good idea in some respects, as regards non smokers, but for the smokers well I'm guessing it sucks. Oh and by the way whats the issues with Ireland? huh??? |

Ireland is indeed a real country. Not sure about Wales or Scotland, but Ireland, definitely. |

Why are you insulting Ireland and why do you assume the OP is Irish? Of course Ireland is a real country. Why do you think it is not? |

Sorry if my first response was a bit harsh.
Korea has banned smoking in public places, along with numerous other cities, states, and yes, even countries (Thailand for example), all have bans against smoking in certain (public) places. Ireland is in no means a "trendsetter" in this regards.
I have nothing against Ireland. I do have something against government that tries to tell private business owners how to run their business. If a bar or restaurant wishes to allow smokers, that should be their choice. If nonsmokers don't wish to be around smoke, I suggest going to a place that doesn't allow smoking. Not crying to the government. I've been in towns that were non smoking. The bars died. People stayed home, businesses closed.
I'm sure the Irish pub owners (many of them anyways) feel the same way. |

Exactly - in Australia a couple of years ago they made it illegal smoke smoke in a Bar! - as in Pub!!!! Now....
Hello?!? I thought bars/pubs were built specifically for people who liked to drink/smoke??
Many people stopped going to their favorite bar/pubs - and bought the drinks - took them home to drink, smoke and socialise.... Business lost money.... therefore hurting more than just smokers...
Smoking..... is a custom/tradition for many cultures - why try to make a custom/tradition illegal? also what is worse - the smoke from a smoker drifting towards a none-smoker -
OR
the yellow dust from China, the carbon-monoxide on most Freeways/highways in and around Seoul - the toxic waste spewing out from the glue factories around the Ansan area, POSCO factory in Pohang etc etc - my list could go on...
Now com'on - if people wish to smoke - they should be allowed - as long as it is outdoors - Yeah yeah the health reasons of breathing second hand smoke.... do you really want to live to the ago of 90/100?? and have to wear a diaper... have someone take you to the toilet, wash you, cook everymeal dress you or just dump you in a crappy retirment home??? Not everyone cares about becoming an elderly geriatric... enjoy life whilst you are still young.... |

They should make cigs stronger, spike them with more poison and add some lighter fluid to the paper for good measure. It will make them die faster so that I can get a breath of fresh air as I wait for a freakin sandwich or something. |

If I only live another year, I would like the quality of my life to be as high as possible.
Anyway, can't speak for Ireland, but what non-smoking regulations there are in Korea are honored mainly in the breach, so there's really nothing for smokers to get all het up about. Smokers will continue to get their fix when and wherever their bodies demand. |

Thate sounds better than coughing up a lung, weezing as you try to play with your son, smelling like a bar 24/7, developing that sexy coat of golden brown on your teeth and joining the cancer club by the age of 40. Only 20 year olds think 40 is old. Only a crack head will try to justify his high and a smoker is not too far from a crack head. |

I thought they were built for people to DRINK, moreso than smoking. Wanna smoke go to a cigar bar, or open your own cigarette bar. I like my beer, but that doesnt mean I want to inhale someone elses smoke with it.
Nothing worse than some rude git smoking next to someone trying to eat a meal.
I think its cool if the owner wants to allow smoking in their establishment, but then they need to be prepared for the possibilities of legal action from employees, as has been seen before. |
