I bought a new Samsung LCD tv 3 years ago and after using it for 3 years one of the lamps went out. I had to replace basically whole internal part of the tv. 300,000 won. Something to think about. Anyone else here who had to replace the screen after only 3 years? |

I think you have a DLP set...not LCD
Lamps typically go out after a few years....it's normal maintenance for them. The worst trade off for DLP compared to other types.
Same for many projectors...although they have newer laser DLP sets with no lamp.
I've noticed many places have decent HD DLP sets with bad lamps they never replaced.
You can also buy a lamp and do the replacement yourself. |

I"m sure the OP is talking about the LCD backlight, and not a lamp.
Those backlights from LCD's do go bad and they are expensive to fix. 3 years seems a little quick though. The only way I can see an LCD backlight go bad in 3 years is if the brightness setting is on the highest and the TV was left on, even when it wasn't in use. My LCD TV's backlight hasn't gone out, but I do leave it on for hours after playing on the 360 or watching a movie. The build-in screensaver kicks on and I forget to turn it off.
One of the advantages of LED over LCD is the life of the backlight.
EVen if your LCD's backlight is night bad, over time it does DIM so your picture isn't as bright as it could be. SInce its so gradual you generally don't notice it. However, if you put a new screen side by side, then it becomes really pronounced. |

You should've bought a full HD plasma like I did. Sure, it uses more electricity but the picture is far better and you get more for your money.
My uncle has a DLP and his lamp gave out after a few years, but I told him don't worry, get a new lamp and it seems like you have a new TV. True enough, he got a new one and voila! |
