working at a public school and thinking about resigning this summer. Does anyone know what you need to renew your E2? just wondering if i need to get an fbi check, even though i haven't been home to commit a crime.

You don't need any documents to resign. Just quit and go.

If you mean re-sign (renew) then you need:

new contract
ARC
passport
application
fee
copy of the school's business registration
Letter of guarantee (sponsorship) from the school

AND the 2 IFs

IF you used your original degree and transcripts for your visa application you will need to re-submit a copy of the degree with an apostille.

IF you did NOT submit an FBI check (you used a state one) for the original visa application you will need to obtain and submit one (with an apostille).

That is really lame. As if my original degree became less authentic while sitting here and I havent been home to commit crimes. I figured it be like that though.

The issue over the degree is that people who used an original for their visa application never had it authenticated - hence the need for the copy with an apostille.

The issue over the CRC is that some people used out-of-state checks to circumvent a positive finding so the national check is now required and has to be legalized (apostille).

interesting...

my uni admin says I don't need an apostiled degree OR an FBI check to re-sign.

they apparently called immigration. I think i'll pay immi a visit soon... 4th year coming up, 4th background check, 4th degre authentication etc. they have some serious admin problems in Korean immigration.

on top of that, last time they didn't even take my docs, which I paid over $100 to obtain. i guess go with the flow, take a few jabs from Kimmi, complain about how inefficient Korean government is, get my new visa, forget about it for a year, and do it all over again a year later.

Cheers!

I can confirm this. My high school admin contacted immigration this week and the official said that E2 teachers re-signing do not need to follow the new procedures for degrees or background checks for another year.

I am with EPIK and about to re-sign for another year. Originally we were told that we didn't need the appostilled degree and criminal check as immigration had changed their minds. They would now allow you to renew for 1 time but the next time you changed anything you woud need that stuff. This past week we got a new message from our coordinator saying that she went to immigration and as long as we get our documents to immigration by Dec 31 we would be ok but after that we would need the apostilled degree etc. We have a meeting next week to sign the new contracts so perhaps we will be told more clearly then.

My question is how long does it take for immigration to process your new visa once you take your documents there? I will have my new contract on the 17th so I can go to immigration on Dec 20, therefore not needing the criminal check. However I am going home on Jan 1 and am worried that they will take my passport and I won't get it back in time. Can anyone who has renewed their E2 visa before offer some insight.

That's not what I was told just last week.

When you renew, you do not need to surrender the passport. They just write a note on the back of the ARC.

This was what we were told by our Office of Education in Daejeon but it wouldn't surprise me if they are wrong. Glad to know that I don't have to give up my passport.

You will need:

1. A new, notarized CRC (federal level)

2. Another medical check

3. All of the forms from your school (business license, other bs papers re: renewing for a year), the app, ARC, etc...

You take it all in to Immi with the new contract, wait about 15 minutes and the back of your ARC is stamped.

So what if we renew THIS year for a contract that starts NEXT year? What docs do we need then? Please don't say FBI checks because mine is in two pieces.

Incidentially, I called and was told that if I renew next year, I need PHYSICAL proof that I have started getting the documentation needed if I don't have it. Yet another friend calls a couple days later and they say it's been put back another year. Great, just great.

Also, what about names? On my Korean contract I was given one name, another on my English one and another on my sponsorship letter and all three are different versions of my passport name.

Oh, and a friend renewed in Daegu and was told that now re-entry permits are FREE Smile And they don't put anytihg in your passport, just write on your ARC:

Suwon kiimi stinks. I got the lette the 25th of Nov. Rules changed mid July. What took them so long to send out the letter?! FYI: Thanks to this forum I found out, because kimmi wasn't giving any straight answers.

Just to add to the confusion.... I extended my contract for a month a few weeks ago and they kept my passport for 2-3 weeks. Came back with a shiny new re-entry permit in it! (yeah, the one we supposedly don't need anymore.)

This was Busan.
