So, I have settled on my contract. I signed it and sent it and everything is almost set. I fly out on December 27th and will be working/living in Suji-gu for the next year. I've done my research on it in the internet and it seems like a nice place. I want to hear about from those on the ground, though. Anyone on this board live in Suji-gu or have been there and can share some opinions of it? I'm looking forward to a smaller city life-style, but I won't be going mad with boredom and looking for a way out daily, will I?

Thanks for any and all words of advice!

To be perfectly honest, and I'm sure some folks living in Suji will disagree with this, it really strikes me as the worst of both worlds. It's very crowded and the traffic is insane, but it's pretty boring as it's very much a suburb. I really don't think you're going to get a small city feel other than the fact that there isn't much to do there. Also, that "30 minute" bus from Suji to Seoul will often take you more like an hour and fifteen minutes due to traffic. A couple of my best friends from uni lived there and were not particularly happy.

Suji is a crowded, busy place.....you definitely won't get a small town or suburban vibe from it.

I faced the same confusion of terms when I first arrived in Korea. I went to Seongnam which was described, kind of accurately, as a suburb of Seoul. So, I was expecting a kind of quiet, suburban laid-back vibe......when I arrived I was shocked to see that it was a pumping full-on city much more crowded busy and loud than any city where I'm from.

Suji is just Korean city life. Busy, vibrant, crowded.

I live next to Suji. And I have to disagree with the other posters. It's definitely smaller compared to Seoul but vibrant enough that you won't be bored. You don't have to worry about traffic if you take a bus (they have their own express lane) or the subway. You can get to Seoul quickly if you want. I'm happy here.

Suji is fairly upscale and is close to Bundang. You've got Juk-jun for shopping and Seoul is fairly close. There's a nice greenbelt for exercise.

I can think of a lot worse places.

I've had it take me well over an hour to get north of the river on that bus. Unless you're going to Kangnam it's not particularly helpful. The subway takes forever and is horribly inconvenient, as you're generally transferring at least twice. Not to mention that Suji proper is a bus ride or twenty minute walk from Jukjeon.
