A coworker of mine and I are currently working in Gangwon-do (Taebaek, specifically) and are thinking about TEFL certification. I understand there are a number of online options for this, but I've noticed that on the jobs boards it's not uncommon for those asking for such certification to request that the certification in question involved 10 hours of supervised teaching practice, which seems to rule out online possibilities for those positions.

Does anyone have any advice about getting such a certificate given where we live?

KEISIE do a tefl course with an online and practical section. The classroom part can only be done in Korea as that is where they are based.

2 options are 100 hours (all online) or 120 hours (includes the classroom instruction, which is completed at your school).

I have only completed the 100 hour cert, so I have no idea what the classroom component consists of, but the online part was decent, and easily completed in good time.

Clicky!

Thank you, I will look into this. I like the sound of them coming to us for the observation.

I know that this post is a bit old, but in case anyone else is looking for similar info, I know that one of the universities in Wonju has an in-class TEFL course, and one of the universities in Chuncheon (Hallym U.) has an in-class TEFL course. I think that both of them have a partnership with American universities. I know for sure that one in Chuncheon does. If someone wants more info let me know and I'll check for it.
