Bogus decision. Agreed, the U.S. is big on American football, as am I, but I also love soccer... FIFA is stupid for not giving the bid to us.. untapped resource if you ask me...not an easy tap, but still untapped. and by that time, who knows...

Qatar should be the worst World Cup in a long time.

Both decisions are disgraceful in my opinion. These are politically and economically motivated and the whole thing was a fix, most likely from the start.

Russia will have to address the issue of rampant racism against non whites. Its not political correctness it is a real and observeable problem in the country, according to the FCO 60% of all black tourists have been assaulted.

Qatar, well to say I am speechless is an understatement. What have these people ever contributed to the game?!?!? It is a dessert, games will be played in indoor stadiums to a local population of something like 1m. Women are not allowed to play football there; homosexuals are banned and so are Israelis (Israel are a member of FIFA by the way so I do not know how that works). The security operation will most likely upstage the event itself.

And Ionian European countries aside, none of the European sides will have a chance in hell of winning the competition in that heat and the medical services better equip themselves well.

The problem is FIFA answers to no one and as long as that is the case football will continue to crumble. FIFA are based in Switzerland but, bizzarely, have some immunity from Swiss law in the event of an investigation. The corridors of power have their pockets lined with both competitions.

I hate Sept Blatter, I really do. And with the post reaction in England, it has only damaged our chances further.

You aren't comparing like with like here. Footballers feign injuries because it gives them an unfair advantage, which isn't the case in American football. Cheating in American football comes in a form that you can inject.

Oh, and as for saying that American football is more exciting than football, well I think you'll find there are about 190 countries in the world which disagree. Wink

Oh dear! You really really think there are no performance enhancing drugs used in F.I.F.A. Also I bet you believe that no officials have ties with organized crime. How about bike racing?" Is that clean?"

The feigning injury is annoying and makes a boring game just more boring. The only reason soccer is popular in so many countries Soccer is cheap. All you need is a field and a ball.

No, I don't believe that football is doping-free. Quite the contrary, I often argue with people that there is clear evidence of performance-enhancing drugs being used in the sport. I was just pointing out that feigning injury will gain no advantage in American football, so there is no point in doing it. If players could get an advantage I'm sure they'd do it, and using doping as an example to show that it's hardly some sort of fair play utopia.

As for cycling, of course doping is going on in that sport. However, the sport as a whole has acknowledged that it has a massive problem and is doing more than any other to stamp it out. How many other sports have a biological passport programme?

And the idea that people only like football because it's cheap is frankly laughable. People like it because it's a fast, exciting game and, importantly, accessible to players of all sizes, from skinny wingers to muscular centre backs and forwards. I believe that it's the most popular participation sport in the USA these days. Not bad for such a dull sport. Razz

Yes. I have been to Qatar.

Is English your first language? I really don't know what you're saying here.

Oh, have you, I am sorry then you probably didnt really enjoy it as a tourist.

I probably speak less English than you do, neither have I ever travelled to Qatar or whatever-tar... But I know every country has its unique culture and tradition, climate, geography, etc, which are usually what foreign tourist are looking for... all countries are different and most countries in the world are developing or under-developing countries... sports bring people together because they offer every country and race the equal chances to participate... you might not be satisfied, but the Arabic world has been cheering for their success (probably without alcohol, isnt it boring )...I am sure they deserve some victory as well

I always "look down upon" those judgmental people who think some countries or cities are superior thus other place (eg. Jeolla do) should not stand a chance for doing something...

I just made fun of your arrogant and ignorant comments is all.

You are obviously not a football fan! Not being able to drink? :S never heard of this one when watching football! Not being able to roam around the host city because of the blistering heat, which probably makes more sense to me to have an alcohol ban even though it is a religious ruling. I wish the world cup could be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, we would take care of the true football fans from across the globe. Qatar..... A country built on oil wealth with no history and Muslim laws....I will not be going unless they some how come up with the coolest promotional adds to suck me in! Though I havnt passed through Qatar I have been close and it aint some where I would put my hand up to play football.

2014 should be good though! maybe a little dangerous but exciting!

I have no doubt that both Russia and Qatar will do amazing jobs. No host of a major event wants to embarrass themselves. Qatar will give foreigners a lot of leeway and will let people get away with practically anything, short of murder or rape. Russia will bring out the military if it has to, in order to protect fans.

Yeah thats why I watch out for promotional videos etc of what the host offers fans, I guess you could be right with Qatar giving way because of their small population and limited history they might push aside muslim laws and rules for a more free world cup..... I can only hope so because I love the world cup!!!

They'll have to, it's a requirement to host a world cup to accommodate sponsors. Unfortunately the current FIFA beer sponsor is Budweiser Sad

Do you have a certificate for being a drinking football fan? if that is what you meant, then no, I am not qualified as "a fan"...other than that, I only know I watched at least 20 games in last World Cup, as many other female fans did.

Watching the guys who play is different to watching the game Razz. My gf watched them as well, hence her fav team was Portugal for obvious reasons... Nah I know drinking beer is not what makes you a football fan....oh wait im wrong according to ads and sponsors it apparently is Smile!

I am not American but hey I would have Budweiser over Australian or European beer any day of the week if the sun was out. Budweiser is really refreshing as is Coors though Coronas would be the pick of the bunch for me as a sponsor since games are played during hot days. I remember last world cup right after all the games were over the official world cup Budweiser stubbies were practically given away, so I think I was more drunk after the world cup then during haha!

There are many historical and cultural reasons why soccer is popular in different countries. cheapness is just one factor. The main factor is that it was the game of the British working class when Britannia truly did rule the waves. They exported the game everywhere.

In actual British colonies, more middle class games like cricket and rugby were and are more popular.

BTW you havn't been watching college football or basketball lately. Diving is common in college football (to slow down hurry up offenses) and in the nba. Professional athletes will look for an edge anywhere.
