i wouldn't necessarily say this is a chic flick, but it's a tear jerker. i cried like a little bee-osh: my sister's keeper
what dreams may come was also a tearjerker for me.
but my favorite love story/movie would have to be eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. but that's not a chic flick is it? |

My favourite chick flick is Chicken Run.
I'm lucky that my girlfriend isn't really into chick flicks (apart from B*****t Jones) or books. Her heroes are Alexander the Great and Atilla the Hun, so she prefers reading books/watching films about them instead. |

| My two favorites were already mentioned - When Harry Met Sally and Love Actually. I must say that I'm a sucker for chick flicks. I would rather watch a chick flick than most action movies. I say most, because there are a few really good action movies. |

But I was going to say "Amelie" as well. I hate to admit it, but I don't watch as many films with female leads. I think writers just suck at writing women. I wish they could take something like The Brothers Bloom or The Science of Sleep and switch the genders of the characters and all the associated gender pronouns. Then we'd have great films about women where the writing doesn't completely grate on you. |
That made me think of what Jack Nicholson's character says in "As Good as it Gets":
Receptionist: How do you write women so well?
Melvin Udall: I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability.

+1
From 5-20 I never would have wanted to watch a chick flick. From 21+ I never wanted to watch 99% of Action movies I've come across. The only exception is realistic war movies, but I don't consider those true action movies because usually there is some doubt as to who will live and die.
Emma, Moulin Rouge.
Korean Films- Crush & Blush, Wanee & Junah, This Charming Girl, Secret Sunshine, Girl Thirteen, The Classic, Singles.
But some of the great movies are the ones that are perfect for Guys & Girls- That's right, I'm talking about the Princess Bride. ROUS, Forced Marriage, Andre the Giant, Billy Crystal, Six Fingered Men, True Love.
To add on "chick flick" type music is way more appealing than metal or rap these days. I'm talking coffee house stuff. Like K-Indie groups like Fanny Fink, Lucite Tokki, Hermin, Yozoh, Taru, The Melody. |

"You make me want to be a better man."
It's one of the best movie lines ever put in a romantic movie, and it's As Good as it Gets
I also like Ever After. It makes the Cinderella story seem like it really could have happened.
I personally like chick flicks, but there's a point when they become too icky-sweet. Films like The Notebook and The Titanic went far beyond that point and I have vowed never to watch another Kevin Costner/Nicholas Sparks production ever again. Both of them milk every possible second of every scene for sentimentality and once the work is over, I feel a little sick. Sparks has also been fairly criticized as formulaic...here's the most amusing version of that genre.
