Hi everyone! I'm requesting some advice please:

In 2005 I came to Korea to teach. I applied to teach with a fake degree, and immigration knew this. A few days later they took me in, held me for a couple days, and booted me out. I was banned from entering the country for 3 years.

I've since earned a real 4-year B.A. in History. Can I get an e-2 visa? My local embassy says I can visit Korea if I want, no problem. But I'm wondering if I can get a teaching visa? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Wow, I've never heard of someone actually do that. I mean you hear rumors from time to time, but this is a first.

Umm, I have no idea. If you still have the same passport and passport number, I'd suspect not. But maybe you could change your name and then get a new passport with a new number. Perhaps that would get you in. If you did go that route, I certainly wouldn't suggest you volunteer the information about trying to scam the system to anyone official.

If they told you 3 years back in 2005, then you paid your dues. Make sure they issue your E-2 before you get to Korea. Good luck.

Can you get at E2 = maybe.
IF you were NOT prosecuted for visa fraud; ie: you were dealt with at the policy/branch level = probably yes,
IF you WERE prosecuted (criminal history in Korea) and deported = NO.

IF they allow it -
Will you require a (home country) consular interview EVERY time you apply for or change your visa = YES

You'd be far better off in China.

IT IS BECAUSE OF THOSE LIKE THE OP THAT WE ALL ARE SUFFERING A NIGHTMARE FROM HIS CRIME.

A FRIEND OF MINE HAD AN OVERSTAY BY ONE DAY 10 YEARS AGO BECAUSE HIS FLIGHT WAS CANCELLED BECAUSE OF PROBLEMS WITH THE WEATHER. AND YET, A YEAR AGO WHEN HE TRIED TO GET AN E-2 THEY SAID HE NEEDED TO HAVE THE INTERVIEW AT THE CONSOL. BECAUSE OF HIS BLACK MARK. SOMETHING AS SERIOUS AS A FAKE DEGREE WOULD MOST LIKELY BE STILL IN THEIR SYSTEM.

Getting a degree in order to return to SK? That's dedication or something... else.

I second what others have said. You and your kind have caused us untold grief in paperwork and hoops to jump over. I sincerely hope you receive a lifetime ban from Korea.

Hopefully, they give you a second chance, but I'm sure you probably have record/note on their system.

+1. It's people like the OP that are the reason why getting here is such a pain in the neck. I hope they turn you down for life.

I disagree; if he did his time and earned a degree he should be allowed in.
